Throughout the history of mankind, millions of books have been written by our ancestors and contemporaries. We will talk about one of such masterpieces, the book “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and the film shot based on the paper edition, in an article.

Some information about the book

In a literal translation from Swedish, the name sounds like "Men who hate women." This is a detective novel, the first in a trilogy of books "Millennium", written by the Swede Stig Larsson.

Stig Larrson

The book related to the dragon tattoo was awarded the prestigious Glass Key Award and Galaxy British Book Awards. She was twice filmed, for the first time the film was shot in the author’s homeland, and in 2011 the American version was released, directed by David Fincher. The main roles in the project went to Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.

History of creation

At age 15, Stig Larsson witnessed the rape of a girl named Lisbeth. For some reason, he could not help her and had to involuntarily watch what was happening. According to Stig, his whole life is tormented by remorse, which prompted him to write the novel "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

To create the main characters of the book, as Larrson himself says, he was inspired by his favorite children's story - "Peppy Long Stocking", which was written by Astrid Lindgren. Salander is a reflection of Peppy, and the original Larrson character has red rather than black hair. References to the children's book are often traced in the book. For example, on the door of the apartment of the heroine Lisbeth is written "V. Kula." That was the name of the villa where Peppy lived.

There are several books on the bookshelves in Gottfried Vanger’s house and, as you might guess, these are Peppy Long Stocking and Kale Blomkvist and Rasmus. A stray cat nicknamed Cherven also migrated from Astrid Lindgren's books.

Mention of coffee

Book coffee references

Most of the characters in the novel permanently drink coffee. In the Russian translation of the book "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" this word occurs about 113 times. Everything is explained by the personal addiction of the author of the book and his wife Eva Gabrielsson to the ancient drink.

In his book Millennium, Stig and Me, the common-law wife of the writer notes that coffee is their favorite drink since childhood. The author of the book first tasted the drink at the age of five; he was treated to by his grandmother.
