The story of Tupikov’s house
The mansion appeared at the intersection of Uktusskaya and Glavny prospekt in 1890. For his family, it was built by the local gold miner Tupikov Stepan according to the design of the Yekaterinburg architect Julius Dutel. Later, a stone wing was added to the house, a part of the territory behind the house where a small garden was built was wrought with a wrought-iron fence.
Initially, the house was one-story, its interior decoration delighted the owners and guests with luxury: a typeset parquet made of precious woods decorated each room with an individual pattern, a large fireplace room, cozy rooms, rich furnishings. But the devout woman was a supporter of the Old Believer Orthodox tradition and spent the rest of her life in prayer. A legend has been preserved, according to which secret passages were made under the Ascension Hill from the small secret room in the basement where her chapel was located, the Kharitonov-Rastorguev estate. And an allegedly inconsolable widow hid her wealth there, and still no treasure has been found. Another joy of the hostess was the organization of the Christmas tree in the mansion for children, the holiday was held every year and was one of the favorite among the townspeople.
Mrs. Tupikova during her life lost both her home and all her wealth. In 1917, the estate was nationalized, and the old woman, as a declassified element, was allocated the smallest living room. What happened to the widow later is not known for certain, but a stormy life began at the house.
After the revolution
The change of power in the Urals took place rapidly, the house changed owners very often. It was he who was chosen by Kolchak for his bid during his deployment in Yekaterinburg. During this period, an Old Believer chapel was found, for which the hostess did not spare money, there were found icons in massive gold salaries with natural stones, church utensils - everything was supposedly nationalized, but no, no, and the Red Army had stones of unprecedented beauty. Rumor has it that someone even walled up part of what was found in the tunnel, which goes from the mansion towards the Iset River.
In the 20s the mansion received a second floor, fortunately the construction turned out to be successful and completely repeated the architecture of the building. The premises housed various government services and institutions. Without proper care, the mansion gradually fell into decay, such a slow destruction lasted until 1981. Ironically, the almost-destroyed house housed a housing and repair trust, which in no way contributed to the preservation of the architectural monument.
