Danganronpa - game or anime?

The full name sounds like Danganronpa: Kiboo no gakuen to dzecubo no kokosei, which means “Danganronpa: Academy of Hope and School of Despair”. This is a game from Spike Chunsoft, which is presented in the form of a visual novel. The release took place on November 25, 2010. It is worth noting that the game was released only in Japan and was designed to play on the PlayStation portable console. Players had the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the virtual world, becoming the character of "Danganronpa."

In total, three parts of the game came out. The second release, entitled “Danganronpa 2: Farewell, Despair,” took place in July 2013. The third part, Danganronpa: Reboot, was released in October 2013. At the end of 2017, Japanese gamers expect to see the final part of this fascinating story. Although the latter, it has nothing to do with previous versions. At least that's what developers say.

After the release of the first gameplay based on the game, a manga was created, and after that an anime. The animation tape was presented by Lerche Studio, and on July 4, 2013 the first season was released. In 2016, another 2 seasons of anime and special were released. All of them fully corresponded to the game world, even the characters of "Danganronpa" practically do not change.

The plot of the first season

The main idea of ​​the anime is a simple phrase: "Kill or be killed." In the first season of the anime, the elite school “Peak of Hope” is talked about, where only the most gifted children are accepted. But you can also get there by winning the lottery, which makes it possible to study there as outstanding students. That's just, once in the "Peak of Hope", you can no longer leave the school. You can get out in only one way - to kill your classmate and not be caught.

Survivors (male characters)

In the anime, the viewer meets 15 schoolchildren who are in an elite school. But by the end of the first season, no more than half remained alive. The spectator meets with them in the following seasons. Now more about the characters of the anime "Danganronpa":

• Makoto Naegi (苗木 誠) is one of the main characters of the anime. An ordinary young man who does not stand out among his peers wins the opportunity to study at an elite school in the lottery, where he is given the nickname "absolute lucky man." He has good makings of a detective, which allows him to solve crimes that occur at the academy.
• Byakuya Togami (十 神 白夜) - a native of a wealthy family, has already managed to attend some senior positions, and very successfully. He has the title of "absolute heir." Somewhat removed in relations with classmates, seeing them as competitors.
• Yasuhiro Hagakure (葉 隠 康比呂) is an “absolute shaman” with a prediction accuracy of 30%. Unconstrained in behavior, but very afraid to be under suspicion.

Survivors (female characters)

No less important role in the first season of the anime was played by female characters of "Danganronpa". Of these, survived:

• Toko Fukawa (腐 川 冬子) is a girl with personality disorders. It has the nickname "absolute bookworm." Her novels were very popular, and she has already received several awards. But Toko has a different personality - the "unconditional serial killer", manifesting as soon as the girl sees blood.
• Aoi Asahina (朝日 奈 葵) is the "absolute swimmer." A young athlete who was in 5 sports clubs and was selected to participate in the Olympic Games. A bad memory for names, naive, takes everything to heart and easily gives in to panic.
• Kyoko Kirigiri (霧 切 響 子) - the girl is taciturn, in addition, her memories are erased. She can justify her actions, endowed with outstanding deductive skills, her talent is “an unconditional detective.”

Dead

The bloody survival game has taken the lives of many characters. Some were executed as murderers, and some were killed by their classmates.

Another character who didn’t make the list, Sakura Ogami, “the ultimate martial artist,” committed suicide because she didn’t want her life to be manipulated.

Prescribing rules

In addition to those who played the survival game, there were those who created it, as well as creatures that are not human:

• Junko Enoshima - “absolute gyaru” (appropriated the title “unconditional despair”). The organizer of the bloody quest at the Academy. After her identity was revealed, she executed herself.
• Mukuro Ikusaba is an "absolute mercenary." Junko's younger sister, carried out all her orders, and she was killed by her.
• Monokuma is a black and white bear who introduced himself as the director of the Academy. Representative Junko, his duty is to punish students.
• Alter - ego - artificial intelligence that was created by Fujisaki. Possesses some features of his character, played an important role in the release of students. Appears as a character in Danganronpa 3.

Characters of Other Seasons

There is no second season in this anime. In 2013, the adaptation of the first game story was released, and in 2016, viewers could see the series, which was invented by the creator of the game, but differs in plot from the gameplay. The game characters of Danganronpa 2 are different from the first story. In the anime, however, they do not appear.

As for the conditional 2 season of “Danganronpa”, the characters (main) are survivors in “Peak of Hope”. After humanity suffered from the tragic incident of "Absolute Despair", the government created a new formation, "Foundation of the Future."

The viewer has the opportunity to meet new characters. Since “Danganronpa 3” consists of 3 sequels: “Future”, “Despair” and “Hope”, it is worth getting acquainted with new characters in order.
