The birthplace of the lambrequin is France, and once its meaning was completely different than today: reliably hiding sleeping chambers from prying eyes, the lambrequin held heavy curtains, concealing their hinges and fastenings. It was intended to create the illusion that folds gracefully appear on fabrics luxuriously decorated with fringe, ribbons, bows, and beads.
The value of modern lambrequin
Lambrequin has greatly changed today, but its meaning has remained the same, however, it is now adorning windows, not sleeping places. Its ability to visually narrow or expand the space is actively used by designers in interior design. Various technologies for creating amazing shapes allow you to make any place in the house, halls, beautiful, spectacular and unique.
Lambrequins are soft and hard. Both types are popular: having entered fashion relatively recently in a new role, they have won their niche in the market with ease and, it seems, will never leave it. Indeed, a variety of styles and types of elegant designs gives completeness to any interior.
Types of Lambrequins
Soft designs include shapes created from fabric curtains. They are formed by tying the fabric, tucks of various shapes, the formation of folds. Such lambrequins are called soft. Their types are divided into swagi (semicircular sagging), frill (corrugated symmetrical and asymmetric fans), ties and puffs. Sometimes a combination of several types of lambrequins forms magnificent aerial designs. The main types form many subspecies: bells, buds, marquises, and lambrequin designs in the form of arches, cuff grabs, an unusual type of curtains make the interior perfect. Hard lambrequins are called "bando". They are performed on dense material, on the front side the pelmet is harmoniously combined with the main type of curtains, and the reverse side is equipped with an adhesive surface.
Curly lambrequins (they are also called openwork) are the most complex type of lambrequin. But its unsurpassed elegance often serves as the same nuance and highlight in the interior of almost any room.
What is a figured pelmet
This type of lambrequin can be either openwork or cut from a single piece of fabric. You can make curly pelmets with your own hands, the creation process will require skills in sewing and artistic taste. For the construction of a solid canvas, it is enough to measure the length of the desired lambrequin, correctly make a pattern, and then attach it to the cornice.
How to make a pattern?
The basis of the figured lambrequin should be dense, non-woven is perfect for this purpose. It is translucent enough to apply the pattern you have chosen to it. You can make a pattern by enlarging the pattern from millimeter scale to the desired size. There are also special computer applications with which to make it more convenient.
When cutting fabric according to the pattern, you need to use pins so that the fabric does not move out and wrinkle.
The finished pattern with allowances transferred to the non-woven is ironed with steam, this will allow the glue base to evenly distribute the fabric over the workpiece.
If you chose an elegant openwork pattern for a lambrequin, it is carefully cut using a guilloche soldering iron.
What are lambrequins with an interesting geometric shape used for?

Lambrequins on a rigid basis are a good solution for a not-so-beautiful cornice; they conceal the shortcomings of the transition from placing the curtains on the cornice to the ceiling, and the disadvantages of the cornice, if any. Curly lambrequins can be purchased in the meter for the entire length of the cornice. It is very simple to fix it, it is enough to remove the film from the adhesive surface and carefully attach it to the cornice. Loops can be used if the cornice is not straight but round (i.e. it has a circular cross section).
Openwork lambrequins, being an exquisite detail in the visual design of the room, can be used to increase the window area visually or to reduce it (if, for example, the room needs to be zoned).
Geometry and color scheme
The location of the figured lambrequin depends on how you want to transform the space. You can attach it in the central part of the cornice and focus on symmetry. Also, a well-shaped lambrequin will look in one of the corners if the room is small. Both angles highlighted by lambrequins can be either symmetric or asymmetric, depending on the desired effect.
Figured lambrequin is often chosen contrasting with the main color scheme of walls and curtains. If the interior is single in several rooms, lambrequins of the same type can emphasize this orientation. It can be made small in size to create corner decor elements or several elements of the same type for the entire length of the cornice.
