In 2016, the New Wave contest of young artists, as well as in 2015, is planned to be held in Sochi. Before that, it became a tradition to hold it in Jurmala. “New Wave” became a kind of continuation of the competition among young performers of “Jurmala”, held on the shore of the Gulf of Riga until 1990.

For the first time, this music competition was held only 12 years after the closing of “Jurmala”, namely in 2002, but, nevertheless, after the premiere, it became clear that the “New Wave” would quickly gain popularity among the audience. The first time there were 15 participants. The winners of the “New Wave-2002” are the Smash duo, whose participants at that time were future celebrities and girls' favorites - Vlad Topalov and Sergey Lazarev. The young performer Dima Bilan, who could only take fourth place then, has now become a mega-famous and popular singer. Among the star guests were Toto Kutuno, Philip Kirkorov, diva Alla Pugacheva and many other celebrities.

In 2003, the winner of the New Wave winner was red-haired beauty Anastasia Stotskaya, then Patricia Kaas, Ingrid, Sarah Conor and many Russian stars were guests. In 2004, the Cosmos group won the title of “New Wave” winners, Irina Dubtsova became the owner of the second place.

“New Wave” in 2009 was distinguished by the fact that Ukrainian Jamala and Indonesian Sondoro Sandhy shared the first place. Then this competition was different from the previous ones in that in 2012, the judges' vote was open only on the first and second day of the competition, on the third day it was closed to maintain intrigue.

In 2013, the judges gave the victory to the Cuban performer Roberto Kel Torres. Georgian Salome Katamadze deservedly came in second place then, and Vietnamese Vin Huat got third place. The star guests were Lara Fabian, the famous singer Alessandro Safina and the popular Toto Cutugno.

The second place was shared by the Indonesian Millane Fernandez and Ademi from Kazakhstan, and the third judges were given to the Ukrainian group The Pringlez. The performance of the New Wave winners in 2015 amazed all the guests and spectators of the contest. Unlike previous years, the competition program lasted 10 days. World and Russian celebrities were invited to the "New Wave" in Sochi, including E. Ramazotti, A. Pugacheva, F. Kirkorov, A. Netrebko, Valeria, S. Shnurov and c. "Leningrad", D. Bilan, P. Gagarin, N.
