If you want to learn how to sew a peignoir with your own hands according to a pattern, first of all pick up elegant material, beautiful braid or lace.
Elegant peignoir for special occasions is sewn from translucent airy fabrics, and if you need a comfortable cape or shirt for every day, it is better to use a material with a high content of natural fibers. The color, finishes and pattern of the peignoir will depend on the destination.
What fabric is better to sew a peignoir from?
Back in the 16th century, peignoirs were worn in Venice. They were sewn from velvet with lace, but now it is customary to make them from lighter fabrics:
- silks;
- guipure;
- capron;
- viscose.
How to build a pattern on the fabric?
Peignoir pattern can be done in several ways. The most reliable is to build it on paper, cut it out and transfer it to the fabric, not forgetting the seam allowances. This method is needed when modeling and manufacturing a complex cut model.
But the pattern of a peignoir of free cut can be done directly on the material. You can decorate your wardrobe with a new little thing in a few hours:
- Fold the fabric in half in the direction of the shared thread. Align the cut. Set aside the length from the bottom to the waist and draw a horizontal line with a chalk or piece of soap. Make a mark on it of half the circumference of the hips, add 3 cm for a loose fit, draw a vertical line down.
- From the waist up, you need to postpone the height of the back - point A. From it - 3 cm down, get point B, 10-15 cm to the side - point C.
- Connect B and C with a smooth cut line on the back.
- From point C with a slope of 1-2 cm measure the length of the shoulder, we get point D.
- On the waist line, put aside half of the chest circumference, draw a line up. On it, mark the middle of the height of the back. This will be point E. Connect points E and D, making a rounding for the armhole. From point E, draw a line to the middle of the waist, and from it to the middle of the hips, if you want a fitted product, or from point E, draw a flare to the very bottom.
- Cut, adding 0.7 cm to the seams. Fold the resulting part in half, put the remaining fabric for the front folded in half as well, circle, making the cut deeper.
- Connect the parts, process the armhole and neck.
How to make a peignoir with a smell on the same pattern?
Having performed the back in the same way, measure the length of the product in front of the remaining piece, cut off the excess, cut along in half, as there will be 2 parts of the transfer.
Put the cut back on the side seam to the edge of the material, draw a waist line, circle the armhole and side seam. Set aside the neckline depth on the other side of the peignoir pattern, draw a line to the very edge of the fabric at the waist. Now you have got half of the front with a smell. To this extreme point, on one side you sew a long belt (about 1.5 m). And to the other - part of the belt of small length (about half a meter). On the half where the sash is short, you need to make a hole on the waist line in the side seam to thread the long part there when you smell it.
Having mastered this very simple pattern once, which only at the first acquaintance seems confusing and complicated, you can sew peignoirs, warm bathrobes, even jackets.
How much fabric do you need?
For a pattern of a peignoir with your own hands, one length is enough. With a large volume of hips, you will need two desired product lengths plus the length of the sleeve.
If you will process the edges of the product with the same material, then you can add another half a meter of material to cut the slanting inlines.
For a peignoir on a pattern, you can purchase elastic lace, a soft stretch mesh, process them with edges and armholes. They will help create a romantic image, make the product elegant.
