Alexander Ivanovich Arutyunov is a famous surgeon of the Soviet period. He was the director of such educational institutions as the Institute of Neurosurgery of the Ukrainian SSR (from 1950 to 1964) and the N. N. Burdenko Institute of Neurosurgery (from 1964 to 1975). Also, Arutyunov Alexander Ivanovich was awarded the title of Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR in 1967, Hero of Socialist Labor in 1974, and in 1954 he was recognized as an Honored Scientist of the Ukrainian SSR. By nationality A.I. Arutyunov is considered an Armenian.

Born in Yerevan on December 21, 1903. In the city of Rostov-on-Don, he graduated from North Caucasus University in 1929.

Immediately after graduation, he worked as a doctor for a year in a regular district clinic in the Mari Republic. In 1930, Arutyunov Alexander Ivanovich was invited to work as a surgeon in the clinic of N. A. Bogoraz, which was located in Rostov-on-Don. But he worked there quite a bit. In 1932, he became a graduate student at the N. N. Burdenko Polyclinic. Upon graduation, he was a practicing physician at a neurosurgical institute until the beginning of the Second World War, at the same time he worked as a doctor at TsIU, and also held the position of head of the neurosurgery department at the clinic of S. P. Botkin.

During the Great Patriotic War he was an active surgeon of the 6th and 9th South Front armies, since 1941 he was the main surgeon of the front in the North. Caucasus, since 1943 was a surgeon in the South-West and 3rd Ukrainian Front. In 1945 he was a consultant at the Main Military Investigation Directorate.

Since 1945, he was the head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Kiev University, 5 years later he was on the list of organizers of the Ukrainian Research Institute. In 1964 he became director of the N. N. Burdenko Institute of Neurosurgery.

In 1967 he was on the list of academicians of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR.

The life and work of Arutyunov Alexander Ivanovich took place in the city of Moscow. A scientist died in 1975, was buried in the Novodevichy cemetery.

Alexander Ivanovich developed methods for treating cerebral aneurysms. All these questions are devoted to his major scientific work. A work entitled "Surgical treatment of cerebral strokes" was written in 1965.

All his brain operations with basal meningiomas, pituitary tumors were successful, thanks to his huge store of knowledge in these areas and his mastery of surgical techniques.

  • a representative of the All-Union Society of Scientists-Neurosurgeons;

  • He was elected the first vice-president, and then the president of the World Organization, uniting the neurosurgical societies of scientists.
