An exotic miracle, a crane in a flower pot, a bird of paradise is Strelitzia florists. Home care for this African beauty is not particularly difficult, but still requires compliance with certain rules. In nature, there are five species of this plant, but not all of them are grown in our area. Royal Strelitzia is common in countries with cold winters ; it is grown in a container. But in warm places with a mild climate, it is used as a garden plant. Although it has very beautiful large leaves, they hold it mainly because of the spectacular colors.
What just does not compare Strelitzia. Leaving at home does not frighten exotic lovers at all, if only to get such a wonderful miracle and admire a flower resembling an arrow or the head of a flamingo with a crest. The combination of colors is very unusual and colorful - bright blue, yellow-orange and red shades look original. The plant pleases with flowering for about 1.5 months.
Cut flowers are very often used to create compositions; in a vase, they stand for a long time, and they tolerate transportation well.
Reminiscent of oars, dark green leaves on long stalks have strelitzia. Home care provides annual flowering, although if certain conditions are created, the plant can please “birds of paradise” twice a year: in spring and autumn. Strelitzia loves space, a lot of light and moisture. The flower can be placed on the south window. But in the summer it will be too hot for him there, and the leaves can be cared for in the scorching sun. Ideally, he feels himself on the east window, where the sun's rays illuminate him only in the morning and are still not so burning.
Strelitzia produces flowers only as an adult. For abundant flowering, it should be kept for some time in a room with a temperature of about 15 ° C, so arrows appear mainly in late February - early March. If the plant is provided with such conditions in the summer, then it will bloom again in October-November. From the beginning of spring to the end of summer, feeding should be done twice a month. It is best to use liquid fertilizers for flowering plants.
In summer, Strelitzia feels perfect in the garden or on the balcony. Home care involves regular watering. From spring to autumn, it should be plentiful. With the onset of the rest period, watering should be limited, but still the earthen lump should not dry out. Humidity does not play a big role, but if the plant is in the garden in the summer, then from time to time it should be sprayed and wipe the leaves from dust.
The transplant is carried out approximately every two years, when the flower grows from the former pot. You need to choose tall flowerpots, because the root system develops in length. Growing Strelitzia requires caution, as it has very fragile roots. It is best to transship into a larger pot without shaking the ground. The plant propagates by division and seeds. Separate the rhizome must be very careful, on one part must be at least two points of growth. Strelitzia is resistant to disease and with proper care is not sick.
