A family
Maria's father - Ivan Gavriilovich Gavrilin - was a native of Ryazan province. He studied at the Faculty of History, later worked as deputy chief editor of "Red Star". Then he was sent to Murom to teach Marxist philosophy at military academies.
Maria’s mother, Tsivya Ilyinichna Aizenshtat, was born in Moscow in 1922. She studied at a medical institute, but after evacuation from the capital she was transferred to a veterinary institute. She graduated with a diploma in microbiology.
