Drain with your own hands - a simple process

Before mounting the gutter with your own hands, you need to stop at choosing the material of the system. The most economical are galvanized sheet systems. They are durable and easy to maintain, but are currently rarely used in private construction. Systems made of plastic, metal elements coated with polymers or painted metal became popular. However, the most expensive option is a copper drain.

When installing a roof made of metal , a gutter system made of metal with a polymer coating is installed. Such material is unpretentious to temperature extremes. The only drawback is the noise in rainy weather. A PVC gutter system is installed on a roof made of the same material. The inland gutter system is often used, usually in regions with harsh climates.

Do-it-yourself external gutter must be installed before roofing works, as the system holders must be fixed to the front board or to the rafters using pins with clamps. Then hooks and staples are attached, on which the gutters are placed. When choosing a gutter, its variety and classification must be taken into account. To protect the gutter from damage by heavy rain or snow, the mounts are installed at a certain distance from each other. As a result, a slope should form between the first bracket and the last. Then the cord is pulled between them for mounting intermediate fasteners. With proper gutter collection , the drainage system should function smoothly, while its edge is 25 mm below the roof. We lay the gutters in the brackets, seal the joints.

Creating a gutter with your own hands is not difficult. You will need a steel galvanized sheet with a thickness of 7 mm. Firstly, a folded joint is made in the form of a bend along the length of the sheet. Then, using a rolling tool, iron is rolled to give it the shape of a cylinder - this will be a drain pipe. Next, we proceed to the manufacture of a funnel, for which a rim, cone and glass are cut out of the same material, but subject to the rules: the diameter of the rim corresponds to the diameter of one of the sides of the cone with which it will be joined, and the diameter of the main pipe must match the diameter of the bottom of the glass otherwise leakage is possible. The funnel and pipe are joined by a seam seam. There are no restrictions or rules regarding the discharge.
Often in the manufacture of a drain, an obliquely cut pipe is used, which is attached obliquely to the drain. When connecting pipes from two parts, each following should be 5 mm narrower than the previous one, which improves the density of the connection.

Creating a drain with your own hands, you need to monitor compliance with the established rules. According to the norms, the drainage of water through the gutter system must be at a distance of 1.5 m from the building in order to prevent moisture from entering the base and foundation of the building. To do this, the drain is extended by 2 m with a piece of pipe with a diameter of 10 cm. The pipe is filled with earth with a slope at the end below the level of the base of the house.
