Cthulhu. What is it: myth or reality?

Each historical era corresponds to a literary genre, the mention of which immediately became clear the time of the events described. For example, the phrase “Silver Age” refers to the beginning of the 20th century, and “Romanticism” refers to the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries.

Fantasy is a very popular genre in our time that arose in the 30s of the last century. One of its founders is considered the American writer Howard Lovecraft (1890-1937) - a person who is certainly outstanding, but with an obvious, and genetic, “crazy woman” (his father spent many years and died in a house of sorrow). Authors and fans of this genre are diligently working to ensure that the line between reality and a fictional world becomes more and more invisible.

The most striking example of this whole area as a whole is the Cthulhu phenomenon. What is it really: fiction or genuine traces of former civilizations? No one ever mentioned this community of alien creatures.

cthulhu what is it

However, the myths of Cthulhu are seriously discussed, as if they were myths of Ancient Greece. This story, which has gained flesh and blood in the minds of admirers, is considered the pinnacle of the author's work and the beginning of the fantasy genre.

Cthulhu, a book about which was published in 1928, is based on the plot - an inhabitant of the depths of the Pacific Ocean. The story is an integral part of the cycle and represents a series of stories that penetrate each other, that is, it has a cross-cutting plot. The stories of the heroes are either painful dreams or delusional memories hinting at the existence of something otherworldly. The book became a cult book, acquired crowds of fans, sects formed, the cult of Cthulhu arose, as in the book. Cases of human casualties are known. At its core, this idolatry has an absolutely satanic character.

Cthulhu - what is it, where did he come from, what does he look like? He is triune in his guise. This is something between a squid, a man and a dragon with underdeveloped wings, according to some accounts, he constantly drools.

cthulhu myths

The storyline is an alien invasion. It is necessary to understand, speaking about Cthulhu, that this is a monster, personifying universal evil. He wandered around the universe for a long time, visited planets and satellites, on one of which he got a family. And all together they arrived on Earth, where for a long time they fought with the local Elders. The struggle flared up, then came a truce. But as a result of the last battle, the natives were destroyed, but the conquerors were punished by universal gods. They, at least Cthulhu, were imprisoned at the bottom of the ocean and became motionless. But even in this state, this villain controlled the thoughts of people of a certain warehouse, imposing nightmares on them, driving them crazy. The meaning of the story is that Cthulhu is waiting in the wings, that this return will certainly take place to the delight of his fans.

The story is saturated with horror and mysticism. No wonder the "original" work of its author occupied a special niche even in the fantasy genre and was called "Lovecraftian Horrors."

Not only Lovecraft worked on the "bright" image of Cthulhu. Shocked by his work, the American writer Brian Lumley also contributed to the creation of this image. Ramsey Campbell and Lin Carter had a hand in the myths of Kuchlu.
