Of course, it’s easier for someone to take knitting needles or a hook and a skein of thread and knit mittens, but a sewn product will be much warmer and more reliable, especially if you use warm, dense fabric.
Material selection
Sewing fleece mittens with your own hands is the surest solution for warming your hands in cold weather. It is this fabric that will protect against frost, and will make it easy to sculpt snowballs, if you suddenly want to remember childhood.
You can also use natural or artificial fur. Here the choice should be based solely on personal preferences. Fashionable women and animal defenders will appreciate mittens made of fur with a long pile, for example, white.
Mittens made of rabbit or goat fur will look great, but a mouton will not work for this purpose, it is too dense.

How to build a pattern

Also, for sewing, you need a strip of knitted fabric, from which cuffs should be cut out, which are a rectangle with sides equal to the circumference of the arm and double the height of the cuff.
Cutting products
When calculating the fabric, it should be borne in mind that material will be required not only for the top of the product, but also for the interior design, that is, the lining. For this purpose, it is also best to use fleece.
Given the lining, it is necessary for two mittens to cut out two mirrored details of the fingers and palm elements from the main fabric and from the lining. Fleece mittens, the pattern of which is described above, can be sewn without a cuff, but with a wide dense elastic band inserted along the wrist line.
All details should be laid out on a fabric folded twice inward, stabbed with tailor pins and cut out, stepping back from the paper about 0.5 cm.
Product assembly

First, the parts are sewn along the joint line of the thumb with the palm of the hand. After they connect the back of the palm to the other side of the finger, and then all the elements are collected along the contour of the mitten. In the same way, the lining part is assembled, leaving the seam near the fingertips open. After folding parts from the main fabric and lining along the line of the wrist and close it. Here is the time to insert a cuff or elastic into the seam. They turn the product through an open hole and carefully sew it manually with a blind seam.
How to sew mittens, the pattern of which with a whole-cut thumb? No difficulties should arise here. Cutting and assembly is carried out on the same principle. But it should be noted that on each smooth part of the slices, it is necessary to make notches for the allowances that will eliminate the tightening of the seams of the product.
Sewing mittens from fur
The pattern of mittens from fur is no different from the construction of a fleece mitten described above. Here the same allowances for seams, and the assembly steps are similar. The only thing to consider is a pile bent into the finished seams, which should be removed with a hook or a gypsy needle.
The pattern of fur mittens is transferred to the canvas from the wrong side and is cut with a sharp tailor's knife or scissors with thin blades. In this case, the fur pile should be carefully separated so as not to cut it off. Only under this condition there will be no bald spots on the finished mitten.
