To help the builder: the weight and size of the I-beam

One of the popular types of metal rolling is a beam, in a section similar to the two-sided letter T. The size of an I-beam depends on its purpose and varies from four to 12 meters.

I-beam beam dimensions

I-beam: types

The types of profiles are divided into ordinary and special, designed to work in specific conditions (for the device of monorails, reinforcing mine shafts). Depending on the type, the length of the profile can be measured, multiple measured, measured or multiple to it with a remainder (up to 5% of the lot weight), as well as unmeasured. The direct size of the I-beam corresponds to the distance from one outer edge of the shelf to the other.

I-beams, depending on the species, have significant differences in size. For example, the thickness of a shelf is a variable, since it is directly related to its shape (inclined faces or parallel). I-beams are also distinguished by the material from which they are made, since their application on various objects depends on this (from special steels, from carbon or low alloy steel, hot-rolled steel beams go separately).

Standards for I-Beams

There are several generally accepted standards that unify the size of an I-beam, depending on the method of its manufacture and purpose. For example, the standard for hot-rolled steel I-beams controls the manufactured assortment according to the main indicators - actual dimensions, cross-section, specific gravity 1 m, reference values โ€‹โ€‹of maximum axle loads.

I-beam size

The accuracy of rolling is distinguished by ordinary beams (with marking B) or high accuracy (marking B).

Separate standards control the sizes of the assortment of I-beams, in which the faces of the shelves are parallel, steel hot-rolled, steel special, other types of special I-beam, and I-beams are manufactured according to the specifications of manufacturers.

In each of the existing guests, the control size of the I-beam (its height, width and average shelf thickness, wall thickness, curvature radii of the inside and the shelf), the mass of the running meter (kg) and the number of meters in a ton of I-beams are indicated.

GOST requirements for I-beam 36

For example, we are interested in an I-beam, the dimensions of which are determined by GOST 8239-89. Drawings of such profiles are usually provided by the standard and carry detailed background information built on the geometric dimensions of the beam. They, in turn, correspond to the physical characteristics of the profile, which are important for its application.

The standard spells out the parameters specific to this type of profile, which are standard for both manufacturers and buyers. So, the I-beam is 36. Dimensions: in height - 36 cm, in the width of the shelf - 14.5 cm, in the thickness of the wall - 0.75 cm, in the average thickness of the shelf - 12.3 mm, while the internal rounding should have a radius of not more than 1.4 cm, rounding of the shelf - up to 0.6 cm.

I-beam 36 sizes

A special type I tee is used for guiding overhead cranes and hoists, since the thickness of their shelves is increased compared to conventional ones.

Also, by looking at the reference tables of the standard, you can accurately find out the weight of a running meter (specific gravity) of I-beam 36, which is always the same and amounts to 48.6 kg.
