Uprising Square until the capital was transferred back to Moscow had a completely different name - Znamenskaya. It is located at the junction of Nevsky Prospect, its only turn, and Ligovsky Prospect. What is the reason for the name of the area? The thing is that in the first third of the last century the church of the same name was located here. And finally, the name "Znamenskaya" was assigned to her in the year when the construction of the station, called "Nikolaevsky" began. In 1917, it was here that the bloody fierce events of the last two Russian revolutions unfold. Famous February manifestos were proclaimed here, heavy fights and fights took place here. And so next year the area is renamed in a modern way. In the middle of the 20th century, the metro station Ploshchad Vosstaniya was opened on the square. The station belongs to the 1st metro line. Inside, it is decorated with bronze sculptures that reflect the terrible events of the February and October revolutions.

Uprising Square has a long history dating back to the time of Elizabeth. During her reign, the Znamenskaya Church was laid here, a project which was carried out by Demertsov. It is worth noting that the church was rebuilt more than once. The square itself was formed only in the second quarter of the 19th century, when the main ensemble of the square was laid according to the project of Efimov. This was due, first of all, to the construction of the second railway in the country, Petersburg (Uprising Square) -Moscow. Here, the famous architect Ton erected the Moscow station, but then, as already mentioned above, it was called Nikolaevsky. A little later, according to Gemlianโ€™s projects, the Znamenskaya Hotel, better known as the Oktyabrskaya Hotel, as well as the well-known canteen house designed by engineer Sokolov, will be erected. In the spring of 1909, a monument to Alexander the Liberator will be solemnly unveiled on the square, after 28 years, the monument will be transported first to the Russian Museum and then installed in the Marble Palace. During the Great Patriotic War, military installations were built on the square - it was a kind of springboard for all soldiers and commanders.

And already in 1945, the winners were greeted on a grand scale at the restored Moscow Station. In the early 1980s, an obelisk was erected in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Great Victory. Monuments of this kind were erected in all hero cities on the orders of the Communist Party. This obelisk is a symbol of the square.

Rebellion Square in St. Petersburg is not just a beautiful place, it is more than the elegance of monuments. This is a historic square! The place where Lenin spoke was attended by the church Elizabeth Petrovna and Alexander II. This is the place where the fate of the country was decided in 1917. And it needs to be stored and protected. Itโ€™s not so difficult!
