Last fall, a large-scale reconstruction of the Yaroslavl highway was successfully completed. This event was long-awaited for Muscovites and guests of the capital. Reconstruction work lasted about a year and a half and created significant inconvenience, but this was necessary.
Reasons for reconstruction
The capacity of the existing highway was almost exhausted. This is clearly evidenced by constant traffic jams that occur even outside rush hours and without much reason. The long overdue reconstruction of the Yaroslavl Highway was designed to bring one of the main Moscow highways into a proper modern look. And a certain success in this direction has already been achieved. Those who travel here constantly, unanimously note that almost half the time was spent on the road.
What did you manage to do
The reconstruction plan for the Yaroslavl highway implied the creation of a continuous traffic-free traffic zone. And such a strip with a length of about 12 kilometers now exists. It stretched from the Third Ring Road to the Moscow Ring Road, travel time along this section of the route takes no more than a quarter of an hour. To do this, I had to carry out a large amount of work on the construction of overpasses at intersections and side duplicate detours. The most significant object here was the modern overpass at the intersection with Malygin Avenue. In addition, the reconstruction of the Yaroslavl highway included the creation of a separate dedicated lane for public transport. Pedestrians are not forgotten, during the reconstructed route there were three underground passages in addition to the previously existing ones. The accepted scheme of reconstruction of the Yaroslavl highway implied maximum unloading of the main lanes along the highway. For this purpose, more than eleven kilometers of peripheral duplicate driveways have been laid. Several large intercepting parking lots have been equipped ; work in this direction has not yet been fully completed.
What remains to be done
The reconstruction of the Yaroslavl highway allowed to significantly stabilize traffic along the highway within the city limits. But the project cannot be considered fully completed. The Yaroslavl highway running in the north-east direction provides communication with many cities of the Moscow region, and the flow of traffic in both directions is very intense. And there is still a lot to do here. Especially significant problems after the reconstruction began to arise when leaving the city.
After crossing the Moscow Ring Road, the number of lanes in Yaroslavka has remained unchanged, and the highway in this place is narrower. This is where the so-called “bottleneck” arises, where congestion is constantly forming. And this is only one of the areas requiring intervention. The second stage of the reconstruction involves work up to the 47th kilometer of the route. According to the plans, this section should be completed by the end of 2015. Work is currently underway.
