Description

Each country has its own distinctive features in heraldry. The flag of Romania is one of the most important state symbols. Visually, it looks like this: a rectangular canvas, divided into three wide stripes: blue at the pole end, yellow in the middle and red at the free end.

A bit of history

The official flag of Romania appeared in 1840, although the history of this state symbol is much more ancient. Some historians believe that one of the most influential rulers of the Principality of Moldova, Stephen the Great, went on a campaign in Poland precisely under the now-famous tricolor.

True, there is no official confirmation of this, and the conclusion was probably made from some paintings. The assumption is somewhat more credible that all three colors were already on the flag under the Wallachian ruler Micah the Brave, a representative of the Basarab dynasty, who, albeit for a very short time, was able to unite all the Danube principalities into a single kingdom - Romania. It can be easily assumed that the stripes on the flag symbolize these three principalities.

It is noteworthy that it was the tricolor that became the symbol of the revolution that thundered in 1821 and which was led by Tudor Vladimirirescu.

The flag of Romania celebrates its birthday on June 26 (the year of birth is considered to be the 1848th). This momentous event was preceded by another revolution that took place in Wallachia. In many ways, the "appearance" of the Romanian flag is similar to the flags of some other European powers.

Value

The flag of Romania, a photo of which can be easily seen in books and brochures dedicated to this country, was created under the influence of the French flag. The period 1866-1948 was relatively stable, and one of the most important symbols of the country was a smooth tricolor. A little later, already in the fifties of the twentieth century, the coat of arms of the Socialist Republic of Romania appeared on the flag , and after another thirty-odd years, due to the fact that the political system underwent changes again, the coat of arms disappeared. It should be noted that at a time when the Communist Party ruled the country, the flag of Romania looked like this: vertically arranged red, yellow and blue stripes, and in the middle was the coat of arms.

The last revolution, 1989, put everything in its place. The emblem was cut out and the flag was returned to its original appearance. The final chord in the formation of the state symbol was the restoration of the original version of the Romanian flag, without the coat of arms of the CPP.
