In any weather from September to April, a circular scarf is indispensable. This accessory is called snood, or a scarf collar. Its charm and numerous advantages have already been appreciated by many girls. The main advantage of the snud can be called the fact that it allows you to reliably and tightly wrap your neck. Also, being thrown over his head, he may well replace a warm hat, without causing such unpleasant consequences as a crumpled hairstyle and a trace from the edge of the headdress on his forehead.
Types of Circular Scarves
Given the wide range of consumers, it is not surprising that there are several types of circular scarves. They are classified based on the method of knitting used. You can crochet a scarf, the scheme of which includes only single crochet (RLS) and single or double crochet (CCH, CC2H). Such a product is considered dense.
The presence in the pattern of air loops (VP) turns the snud into an openwork product. It is worth clarifying that an ornament with through holes does not mean at all that the scarf will cease to be warm. All its warming qualities will be preserved if warm yarn with fibers is used. For example, if you crochet a scarf-snood (the scheme of which includes a very large number of chains of VP and large holes), it will be warm if you tie it from angora or mohair. The natural fiber in the thread should be at least 50%.
In addition to the density of knitting, snoods are distinguished by size:
- Long (two or more revolutions around the neck).
- Short scarf (one turn).
Both are very comfortable, but the long one looks more voluminous.
Features of making warm snoods
Only a real winter scarf (crochet) can completely protect against piercing wind and snow. Pattern, work tools and yarn directly affect the quality and appearance of the product.
To get such a scarf, as in the photo below, you need to purchase a very thick thread and a large hook.
Estimated range of yarn thickness: 50-100 m / 100 grams. The size of the hook should be selected individually for the yarn that is selected for the manufacture of the product. However, experienced knitters recommend using the tool a size larger than what is needed for a particular yarn. Thus, a crocheted knitted scarf (pattern and pattern do not matter) will become softer.
If you tie the snood tightly, it can be considered damaged, since it will lose its plasticity and will be tough.
Patterns that can be used for knitting warm snoods
It is not necessary to choose too complicated an ornament to crochet a tight scarf. The diagram and description of elementary patterns are perfect for working with thick thread. For example, you can apply the simplest PRS or CCH. For a change, they can be knitted not for both upper braids, but only for one of them. The resulting canvas will have relief horizontal stripes. Other simple patterns can also be used.
If the thread selected for work has a thickness of 200-400 m / 100 grams, then the choice of suitable schemes is significantly expanded. Here you can already apply patterns with a large number of CCHs, with "bushes" or lush columns.

Short snood
This accessory is designed for a single wrap around the neck. In order to crochet a scarf (the scheme can be any) so that it turns out to be voluminous, it should be made high. As a rule, the shape of such a product when folded approaches a square (height is equal to width). The optimal size is considered to be 35 x 35 cm. But if the knitter plans to wear a scarf on her head, she should make it taller (about 50 cm).
You can knit short snood in both directions: along or across. Just take into account the distribution of the stripes of the pattern. Scarves with longitudinal stripes look more attractive. If you look at the gray scarf proposed below in the photo, then his knitting begins with a long chain of VP.
To calculate the number of loops and rows required for the manufacture of the canvas, a width of 70 cm and a height of 35 cm, it is necessary to tie a control sample.
Further, the workflow involves knitting an even fabric with alternating several patterns. For decor, this model is equipped with clasps, but most often the edges of the fabric are sewn or initially knit round. In the latter case, a seam does not form, which is very convenient for a product such as a scarf.
The specifics of a long snud
When knitting an accessory designed for double wrapping around the neck, you also need to prepare a pattern sample. Crochet a long scarf (a pattern can be dense or openwork) weave almost the same as a short one.
Having chosen the direction of knitting, they recruit VP and begin to manufacture the fabric. The sizes allowing to use a long snud as effectively as possible:
- Width - 30-40 cm.
- Folded length - 45-70 cm.
It makes no sense to exceed the specified length, since in this case you can crochet a too large and uncomfortable scarf.
