Distortion in "Terraria": what is it and what to do with it

Many new players playing Terraria have come across strange and unfamiliar phenomena more than once. Someone also encountered the following situation: grass blocks and the sky suddenly changed their usual colors to purple. This phenomenon is well known to the players in the โ€œTerrariaโ€ as Distortion.

What is it?

Distortion can be compared with a disease - it comes into contact with ordinary grass, and then infects it. The effect often extends to other nearby blocks. Various dangerous monsters live in the biome, but often quite valuable materials can also be found in them. Going inside the Distortion is better with good armor and weapons, otherwise you can easily die there.

In addition, the Distortion in "Terraria" is a place of frequent occurrence of shadow spheres. To get them, the player will have to go to the lower caves. We recommend that you purchase dynamites, bombs, or several units of cleansing powder - only with their help we can pave the way to the shadow spheres. All spheres are broken with a hammer, each of them is able to throw one useful item.

Spreading Distortion in "Terraria" - what to do?

Purification of infected areas is possible only by dispersing the cleansing powder (purchased from the Dryad). After the territory takes its original form, the player must sow it with sunflowers. Sunflowers are a kind of barrier that helps prevent the redistribution of Distortion. After changing the difficulty level to โ€œhardโ€, the barrier will become completely useless.

Terraria version 1.2 introduced to players an alternative to Distortion, which was called "Crimson." The new biome is almost completely identical to the old one and does not have any major differences. The only thing that can immediately catch your eye is the bloody style of Bagryants. The vertebrae came to replace the rotten meat, the World Eater was replaced by the Cthulhu Brain, and the Shadow spheres became Crimson hearts.

Sunflowers do not work? There is an exit!

In the "Terraria" hardmod mode, Distortion can no longer be restrained by deserts, stones and sunflowers. The only thing that can be done in this case is to stop the further spread of the biome. This is done with a simple trick:

Distortion Spread in Terraria
  • we need a deep hole, the dimensions of which must be at least 20 x 8 (in blocks);
  • fill the resulting "gap" with mud blocks;
  • we plant dirt with the seeds of jungle grass.

The above solution is not permanent - Distortion will begin to transform dirt into earth. The process is long, so the player from time to time should replace the old mud blocks with new ones.
