Despite the large selection of coatings for outdoor work offered by the construction market, wood facade paint is an indispensable substance that protects the structure from natural influences and gives it an aesthetic, attractive appearance.
What is a facade paint?
This is a mixture of the main binder and pigments with specific additives and fillers. Its very name implies a purpose - exterior, facade decoration.
Work with facade paints is carried out to cover different surfaces: metal, wood, plastic and mineral. The composition and properties of this indicator may be different or be universal.
Types and advantages of facade paints
According to the type of main binder, the following types of paint are distinguished:
- Acrylic (latex) facade paint on wood, the base contains acrylic resins. Its important characteristics are: versatility, ease of application and quick drying. A durable weatherproof film coating is created. A diverse palette of colors of such paints contributes to the implementation of design ideas. Serves without losing brightness, up to 12 years.
- Oil paint loses its fragility, drying time and a tendency to bloat from moisture and temperature changes.
- Mineral paint contains lime and cement. Their advantage is environmental friendliness and low cost, and the minus is quick color loss and moisture absorption.
- Silicate paint contains silicate glass with organic compounds. It differs in good breathability, but in other characteristics it loses much to paints that create a film coating.
- Silicone emulsion paint. The main binder is an organic resin with a silicon content. It is diluted with water and, when dried, creates a strong, film surface that is resistant to moisture, temperature and the effects of fungi and microorganisms.
The type of solvent used distinguishes:
- paints, soluble in water;
- paints made with solvents of organic nature (Solvent, Xylene, etc.).
The most commonly used water-soluble facade paint on wood, which creates a reliable film coating with atmospheric and temperature resistance, as well as durability. Others account for no more than 20-30%.
Technological properties of facade paint:
- Hiding power is determined by the amount of paint needed to cover 1 square. m
- Paint consumption depends on the condition of the surface being coated (absorbing properties) and on the hiding power.
- Drying speed is important to maintain the integrity of the facade. The higher the better.
- Painting qualities are characterized by ease of use: low toxicity, ease of application and quick drying.
Decorative properties:
- tinting - giving a certain color by adding coloring pigment;
- reflective abilities (glossy and matte).
Often used matte facade paint on wood, and glossy creates an emphasis on decorative details.
