With the birth of a child, young parents have many questions - how to feed, how to play, what to wear and how to walk. The issue of choosing clothes and swaddling the baby is one of the most important. The child must be wrapped so that it is warm, cozy and comfortable.
Swaddling
Our ancestors noticed that the baby is comfortable if his arms and legs are well swaddled. So the child thinks that he is still in the usual environment for him, he feels protected and does not scare himself with pens.
Previously, swaddled with a large piece of cloth, well steamed and ironed. The material was chosen soft, not scratchy - so as not to cause irritation on delicate skin.
Swaddling has now reached a new level. In addition to the numerous fashionable devices that the market for newborns is rich in, a large number of technologically competent things have appeared that make life easier for both mother and baby. Such inventions include a diaper-cocoon. Its feature is that it is dimensionless and sewn at home. First, a pattern is built. A diaper-cocoon with your own hands can be sewn in a couple of hours.
Varieties
Diapers of this design may be different. As fasteners, Velcro, buttons or ties can be used. Such a diaper is suitable for natural swaddling - when the corners are wrapped around the baby’s body and tucked under the layers of fabric.
Appearance may also vary with different diapers. Most of them are T-shaped cocoons with a pocket below. There is also a variant in which the lower part, like the side valves, is hinged and is not fixed with additional fasteners.
Building patterns
For sewing a diaper, a pattern is needed. A diaper-cocoon with your own hands, by the way, is sewn very simply and quickly.
For patterns, it is necessary to draw a capital letter “T” on the fabric that is selected for the product. Then, at the base of the letter, the bottom must be slightly expanded so that it is closer in shape to a circle.
It is necessary to cut 2 parts of this letter. If the diaper is lined, then 4 parts are cut out, while the two inner ones should be less than 5 mm (seam allowance).
In order for the diaper to be at the time of the child from 0 to 3 months, the sizes should be with a margin:
- height 65-90 cm;
- narrow width - 50 cm;
- the maximum width of the shelves is 90 cm.
Since the child is wrapped in such a diaper around the neck, the height of the pattern must be such that the roller at the head does not work out. To avoid this, the baby is placed on the upper edge of the product, and the bottom is slightly loose - it is convenient for the crumb to move its legs, which is especially popular for children.

Cut
Now we will tell you how to sew a diaper-cocoon, and in what sequence to do it:
- Before cutting, the fabric must be washed and ironed carefully. This is necessary in order to understand how the material will behave after heat treatment.
- The ironed fabric is cut.
- Then you need to sew the lining and the outer layer. For this, the tissues are superimposed on each other, face to face. The material is stitched on the sides so that there is a small area through which the entire structure can be turned out.
Diaper-cocoon with a zipper
Different clasps are different mothers evaluate in their own way. It’s convenient for someone to just wind up the baby, someone prefers Velcro. The dimensionless diaper-cocoon with a zipper is a universal option that is convenient for any age of the baby.
To get a high-quality diaper, two-sided factory zipper will be required for work (you can use ready-made necessary length, about 50 cm). Also required fabric, sharp scissors. Her pattern consists of several parts:
- the back of the diaper looks like a big oval;
- the two front parts of the diaper, their length and the circumference of the circle should coincide with the back. It will be correct to draw two ovals, cut the second in half and add 5 mm to the seams;
- sharpening for a collar. A soft knit tape may be used.
The collar is trimmed first. Then the lightning is sewn to the cocoon. After that, the front halves with zipper are sewn together on the sides with the back of the cocoon.
Such a diaper should be necessarily lined so that the lightning does not interfere with the child, does not prick and does not cause discomfort.
Diaper with Velcro
Velcro diaper for newborns fits perfectly. It’s easy to swaddle a baby in it, it’s convenient to unfasten it to change the diaper - there is no need to deploy the entire child.
In order to sew a warm diaper with Velcro, you need 3 types of fabric: fluffy material for exterior decoration, fleece for lining, flannel or bike for the inside.
The pattern is standard - like the letter "T".
Each fabric layer should be the same size as the previous one. Three layers are sewn together in this embodiment.
On the inside, on the sidewalls - that layer of fabric that will fit on the baby's body - Velcro is pre-sewn. The second part is sewn onto the outside. This must be done strictly symmetrically so that the fasteners come together. All layers are stitched together.
Another option is a diaper with Velcro for newborns, in which the Velcro is located vertically on one side.
In this configuration, it is convenient to put the child in the middle and fix it with side sleeves.
Asymmetric diaper
Most mothers noticed that when swaddling a baby, the right part of the diaper cloth is actively used, and the left is used to fix the material on the baby.
Based on this, a specific pattern is ergonomically convenient. The diaper-cocoon is sewn with your own hands so that its right side is larger than the left.
During swaddling, the left part is superimposed on the baby, the bottom is wrapped on the legs, and the right part is wrapped around the body so that the long cloth is in front and reaches to the velcro or fastener. A diaper-cocoon with a zipper on such a pattern will not work, since the lightning will interfere.
For convenience, so that there is no clumping of tissue in the hands, you can make small tucks. To do this, triangles with an angle at the apex of not more than 15 degrees are cut onto the fabric. They are located so that the base coincides with the armpit on the pattern. This is where the wide part of the pattern begins. These drawn triangles are cut out and the fabric is stitched at this location. It turns out that the excess material is removed and the product comfortably fits the baby.
