Dog Leash

Among the offered assortment of ammunition for dogs there are collars, harnesses, leashes, tape measures, ringovings, parfoses, noises and half-frogs from various materials. To choose the best, the dog owner must consider the needs of his pet. The choice is influenced by the size of the animal, comfort on walks and the purpose of using the leash.

Dog Leash Styles

There are several styles of dog leashes. The most common standard leashes are fixed lengths. They can be made of leather or nylon, often with reflective elements for night visibility and safety. The standard length is one and a half meters, but there are variations of leashes designed for large or small breeds.

Metal noose

Purpose of a Leash

Each dog has an individual character. And if a pet of a large breed turned out to be a passionate hunter and an energetic researcher who does not miss his gaze of street cats and yard dogs, if he is ready at any moment to break after someone else's ball or a bird flying above the ground, and the tonnage of the owner’s leash hanging on the other end It’s not at all scary, a dog’s choke-lead will come to the rescue. This miracle of cynological ammunition can stop a four-legged friend without titanic efforts from the side of the dog breeder.

Over time, when the dog forms a persistent conditioned reflex that does not allow it to abruptly break away, it will be possible, if desired, to replace the lead-noose with a standard collar.

dog training

Use for behavior correction and training

The noose is indispensable for training a young dog. She gently extinguishes the excitement from external distractions, focusing on the host commands. A leash noose in skilled hands is completely safe and does not cause tangible discomfort to the dog. When jerking, a reduction in the volume of incoming air reflexively suppresses bursts of temperament.

The stranglehold itself is a collar in which the usual fastener is missing. It is replaced by two restrictive rings. Passing the collar itself into one ring, the loop thus formed is put on the dog’s neck. A leash is fastened to the ring through which the stranglehold does not slip. With an unstretched leash, the collar freely covers the neck. When the leash is pulled, the collar is tightened like a stranglehold, causing discomfort to the dog.

There are also dog leashes with a retainer or half-frogs with three rings. The principle is the same, the third ring is a retainer-limiter, which does not allow the collar to be tightened less than a certain size.

Material classification

Pet shops offer a wide selection of dog leashes with and without lock for dogs. They are made of leather and leatherette, a nylon cord, metal chains and links. Choosing a stranglehold for a particular dog, one must soberly assess the disadvantages and advantages of the material from which the stranglehold is made.

The nylon collar is the most durable, glides perfectly without clinging to the ring. But there is a danger of injuring the dog’s neck and hands in the event of a sharp jerk.

Metal can stain the dog’s coat at the point of contact. In addition, the chain can pull the wool when it hits the junction of the links. Metal noises are absolutely not suitable for light-haired long-haired dogs, but they look very presentable on smooth-haired dogs.

DIY Leash

DIY noose

It is not difficult to make a wicker collar-noose for a dog. It will take about 4 meters of a nylon cord, three metal rings, universal glue, a piece of heat shrink tubing and a durable synthetic thread. Thread the ropes through the ring and weave the pigtail out of the cord of the required length with a small margin. The length of the noose is calculated as the girth of the dog’s neck minus the diameter of the ring. In the process of weaving braids at a distance depending on the size of the collar, a retainer ring is woven. After completing the weaving, thread the end of the pigtail into the second ring, bend and scorch the candles or lighters on the flame, fusing the bent ends with the pigtail behind the ring. For greater reliability, tightly wrap the connection point with thread and glue it. Also fix the fixing ring onto the glue.

Since it is not always possible to do this carefully, it is possible to thread the ends of the cord into the heat shrink tube before fixing the ring and, at the end of the work, cover the junction with it.

The choke leash is ready.
