The answer is very simple: since ancient times, this city was secretly called the textile capital of Russia. Most of the fabrics and quality products were made at the local factories. And that is why a beautiful woman in a traditional Russian costume, engaged in needlework, adorns the heraldic symbol of the city.

Coat of arms of the city of Ivanovo of Soviet times

Many Soviet symbols depicted traditional elements that spoke in advance about state policy. Most often, stars, a sickle, a hammer or gears were chosen as the main composition. These symbols personified the importance of a particular region for the country as a whole. The choice of a particular element was based on the main activity. Developed agriculture or the presence of large, strategically important factories determined the subject of heraldry of the region.

The coat of arms of Ivanov, adopted in 1970, on the contrary, was laconic and modest. A torch and spindle were depicted on a blue background. These symbols spoke of the main activity of the city.

The heraldry of many cities in Russia has changed throughout their existence. The coat of arms of Ivanov, whose photo is depicted above, is also no exception. During the tsarist rule, the artsy style and the use of the emblem of the royal crown or lions on coats of arms and flags were in fashion. Most often, gold or red colors were chosen.

At that moment in history, when the Communists came to power, the orientation of the country, including the main heraldry, has completely changed. Each region began to depict its main business, characterizing the importance of the working class.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, power became democratic, and that is why many cities changed their arms, depicting them as the most important symbols for themselves. The subject of heraldry faded into the background, and each subject of the country was given freedom of choice.
