For a long time, the role of the symbol of the Chuvash capital has been assigned to the monument to Vasily Chapaev. The commander himself is today considered an urban brand. His name is given to streets and towns. With his double, numerous tourists meet in the river port. Any sightseeing tour includes a visit to the museum, which is dedicated to Vasily Ivanovich. The collection of materials about Chapaev has been conducted in Chuvashia for 40 years.

Monument history

The history of the monument began in 1960. Then at the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy held in Moscow, a gypsum sculpture of Chapaev was presented. The commander had an iron saber. The monument turned out to be in the city thanks to the initiative of the director of the local enterprise, who erected the monument on the factory square. A little later, in the same year, the monument was moved to the square, which is located near the Railway Station Square.

Description of the monument

Monument to Chapaev in Cheboksary designed by architect V. Morozov and made by sculptor P. Balandin. It is distinguished by two important details: the monumentality of execution and realistic style. The author of the work, being a supporter of detailed accuracy, presented the divisional commander in boots on one leg - the left. This is due to the fact that in the Civil War, when sewing boots and boots, the pattern was used only on one leg. Another feature of the monument - there is no inscription on it, in honor of whom it was built.

Throughout its history, the monument has undergone repeated reconstruction. The first of them was held in 1984. They reconstructed both the monument itself (it became bronze) and the pedestal (until that moment it was practically absent). As a result, the height of the granite pedestal began to be 10 meters. It is decorated with bas-reliefs dedicated to the Civil War. The height of the entire monument is 15 meters. The sculpture was last updated in 2007. Most of the work affected the pedestal itself. For its facing, new granite slabs were used.

To find the monument described above in the city of Cheboksary, attractions which we are considering in the article, you need to get to the beautiful square, which is located near the railway station. The famous monument to Chapaev rises there.

Monuments in Cheboksary affect space issues. So, in 1976, a sculptural composition dedicated to Yu. A. Gagarin was inaugurated here. On the day of its opening, the townspeople took to the streets, settled on the balconies of nearby buildings. At a rally held in honor of the opening of the composition, members of the city administration and guests spoke. Ovations, shouting "Hurray!" the performance of A. G. Nikolaev, a pilot-cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, and Major General of Aviation was met. Nikolaev and Gagarin both ended up in the first cosmonaut squad.

The author of the sculpture was an aviation engineer and a talented artist G.N. Postnikov. Yuri Gagarin is depicted in a spacesuit. For the manufacture of the monument to Gagarin in Cheboksary, silver metal - aluminum was used. The inscription “Space pioneer Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin” is carved on a black granite pedestal.
