What is Bakelized Plywood used for?

Back in 1909, the world's first patent for plastic production was registered. At first, phenol-formaldehyde resin was synthesized by scientists , and only after that they received the world's first polymer. First, the new substance was magnificently called by chemists “oxybenzylmethylene glycol anhydride”, but common sense prevailed, after which “bakelite” was born. Actually, this date was the day when bakelized plywood appeared.

However, the new substance became popular far from immediately: initially it was used exclusively for the production of insulators. But after a couple of years, representatives of the automotive and furniture industries drew attention to it: bakelite turned out to be an extremely plastic and inexpensive substance, ideally suited for mass production.

Soon, bakelized plywood was created , which remains almost unchanged to this day. It is based on high-quality birch veneer glued with phenol-formaldehyde varnish. Given the pressure and temperature, which are integral conditions for the production of this material, it is possible to achieve almost 100% degree of impregnation. Phenols themselves are in an insoluble state and cannot harm the health of the consumer, but they effectively prevent the defeat of plywood by the fungus. Due to the same effect, it almost does not rot.

Despite the extreme simplicity of production, the bakelized plywood resulting from the output has such strength characteristics that it can almost compete with the latest developments on an equal footing. But its cost is much lower, which contributes to the popularity of this material among builders.

If you read carefully, then the fact that it can be used even in the most difficult environmental conditions will probably not be news to you. It is highly resistant not only to moisture, but also tolerates aggressive chemical environments. Because of this, it can often be seen in such exotic places, which is the deck of the ships. Of course, under such conditions a special bakelized moisture-proof plywood is used, which for a long time is able to withstand even the effects of chemically active sea water.

It can also be used as a material for reusable formwork, since even several pouring cycles are maintained by it without problems. It is simple to assemble such a formwork, and its even walls make it possible to obtain a base with an almost perfect configuration. Given its low thermal conductivity, you will lose much less heat using the technology of winter heating of concrete during pouring. In a word, simple bakelized plywood is able to save a lot of money at the minimum cost for its purchase.

The large size of the standard sheets of this material allows you to do with a minimum number of joints. If it is used correctly and accurately, then one formwork will be able to withstand about thirty fillings! Currently, baked plywood of the FBS brand is produced in our country. Factories in Tyumen and Nizhny Novgorod, known for the high quality of their products, are engaged in its production.
