Museum of Optical Illusions on the Arbat. Visitors reviews

In Moscow, on the Arbat, as on the resort coast of the Black Sea, you can see outlandish entertainments. Strange museums (Erotic art and death), attractions here and there attract tourists, and getting lost in the labyrinths of mirrors, ribbons or, what’s good, in the labyrinth of fear is not difficult. They decided to dilute this gloomy list: a museum of optical illusions opens in Moscow.

How to find?

On their website, the creators orientate future visitors, paving their route through the lane where the Kebab House and the Theater are located. Vakhtangov, without specifying the name of the theater. Those who wish to have fun will not be mistaken for the door and will not accept the pseudo-door painted on the wall as real. Decisively everyone gets to the Museum optical illusions on the Arbat, bypassing first illusory exhibit. Museum guests are not only spectators, but also full-fledged participants in the paintings. Everyone will find something close to him, as the organizers covered a wide range of topics.

Ames's room

The curator of the museum, the artist Janat Avotit (pseudonym), says that from her youth she dreamed of translating the well-known Ames Room into reality, because illusion is the passion of her life. This room stands out and differs from other museum exhibits. In the room, two people standing next to each other turn into a dwarf and a giant.

Arbat Museum of Optical Illusions

The Museum of Optical Illusions on the Arbat consists of 3D paintings. If you look with the naked eye, then these drawings have distorted proportions, but if you perceive them through the camera’s lens, they become voluminous. To do this, stand on a certain area, which is indicated on the floor. On the walls are educational photo compositions designed to help visitors choose the right angle. Therefore, following the museum of optical illusions on the Arbat, you need to take a camera with you.

Museum Paintings

Some images are very entertaining. For example, how do you like the photo on the spire of the Ostankino television tower? A flat view of Moscow is depicted on the floor, but in the photo it looks voluminous. Many paintings are created for an adrenaline rush and tickle your nerves: you can take a picture in a coffin that is surrounded by monsters, or in an electric train car that “bursts at the seams” and falls apart.

Museum of Optical Illusions Opens in Moscow

The Museum of Optical Illusions on the Arbat presents not only voluminous paintings. The creators made a variety of entertaining tricks: visitors become part of the drawing, inserting their heads into the plywood shield, climb the ladder into a huge shoe or posing against the backdrop of a giant phone. For greater effect in the coffin in one of the rooms lies the "breathing" Lenin. Many are scared.

All this curiosity was created in record time: from the first step of the organizers into the building to the opening of the museum, only one and a half months passed. Yanat Avotit says that artists from all over Russia came to paint the walls of the museum, they worked pushing their elbows. Now the same difficulties await visitors. They even fall into each other's frame, as the images are close to each other - this is in Moscow. A museum of optical illusions is also being opened in St. Petersburg, where this oversight will already be taken into account. In the meantime, even this cramped building is the largest in the country, since there are practically no such establishments in Russia. Although in St. Petersburg there is a small analogue of the museum, but there are only a few stereo photographs, says the curator.

Who goes to the museum

The audience coming to the museum of optical illusions (Moscow, Arbat) is very diverse: foreign tourists, pensioners, but most of all young people. Young people take pictures of each other on mobile phones and at the same time break off their thumb at the huge hand that sticks out of the floor, sits down on a giant phone. According to the curator, unlike illusory objects, material ones do not tolerate contact with people. Some props, not available in a single copy, had to be replaced: real ropes stretched from the balloons shown, a real racket was waiting on the tennis table.

Many visitors have a positive attitude to the exhibits, now and then you hear: "Class!" and Cool. Some say that this is a great museum, although there are a lot of people, but no one bothers each other. However, something still interferes with the others, although not the public. The light is mounted so that glare constantly appears on the walls, so the photos come out not entirely successful. Some lament over the light.

According to museum workers, providing the best backlight is still impossible - the coating that protects the images gives a lot of glare. But still, the creators found a way out and reduced the amount of glare by passing light through the frosted glass.

But the light is not the only complaint of the sophisticated public, some are also embarrassed by the exhibits themselves. They find them vulgar.

The museum is open until 23.30, so many exhibits, for example, revived vampires and breathing Lenin, are much more impressive than midnight visitors than daytime visitors, because the main thing in this business is to surprise.
