Paint for wet rooms. Waterproof paints: overview, specifications, application rules

In most cases, the owners of the bathrooms finish the bathrooms with tiled tiles. But sometimes the walls and ceilings in such a room are the owners of real estate and just paint. Paintwork materials for the design of walling in bathrooms should, of course, be moisture-proof. Conventional paints in such rooms will not last long - they will begin to peel off and crumble.

The main varieties of moisture resistant coatings

You can use any dyes to decorate the walls in the bathrooms. Unsuitable for use in wet rooms, mainly only emulsion and water dispersion coatings. Some materials can also be used only for the decoration of certain parts of such premises. For example, β€œTex” paint is washable, the composition of which the manufacturer, unfortunately, does not indicate, is often used to decorate the ceiling in bathrooms and in the kitchen. For walls, in humid rooms, including, experienced craftsmen do not recommend using it.

Wall painting

Water-resistant paints of the following varieties can be used to decorate bathrooms and the space next to the sink in kitchens:

  • alkyd enamels;

  • silicone pigment coatings;

  • chlorinated rubber;

  • latex;

  • oil.

Most of the products on the list include antibacterial ingredients. That is, they are antifungal paints.

Acrylic products are also quite resistant to moisture. However, such coatings are still usually used only for walls and ceilings in toilets and kitchens. In bathrooms, it is better not to use such products for surface decoration.

Alkyd Enamels

It is such paints for wet rooms in our country that are used today most often. Alkyd enamels form an elastic waterproof layer on the plaster . They serve as coatings for this variety for a very long time and look attractive. However, alkyd enamel should be applied to the surface in the bathroom in at least two layers. Otherwise, the paint in the future, and especially in a humid room, may be wiped off.

Fungus on the walls

Alkyd enamel is simply perfect for the bathroom, kitchen and toilet. Such paints are very inexpensive. However, coatings of this variety have one rather serious drawback. Alkyd enamels, when applied, smell very harsh and unpleasant. Finishing work using such dyes in the bathroom should only be with the door open. In addition, the master engaged in wall decoration, in this case, must wear a respirator.

Silicone coatings

Such tools are a very good answer to the question of how to paint the walls in the bathroom or the ceiling. Silicone compounds are currently a relatively new type of coatings on the Russian market. Paints of this type are characterized by increased moisture resistance. They cost more than alkyd enamels, but they can also last longer. If desired, walls painted using silicone coatings can be subsequently washed safely with ordinary household chemicals.

Paint "Tex"

It is advisable to use such paints for wet rooms, because they are capable of not fading in the sun for a long time. Therefore, the means of this variety are just perfect for decorating kitchens with windows facing even the south side.

How to paint the walls in the bathroom: chlorinated rubber coatings

This product is also new in the Russian market. Chlorinated rubber dyes are not only resistant to high humidity, but also ultra-strong. Also, the pluses of such coatings include the fact that they are not afraid of exposure to various kinds of chemicals.

Such waterproof paints are used in bathrooms, but only if the walls here are covered with cement plaster. It is impossible to apply chlorinated rubber coatings on gypsum surfaces. In addition, when buying such a paint, you should, among other things, make sure that it is intended for use in rooms with a sufficiently high air temperature. Unfortunately, many products of this variety are allowed to be used only in rooms with a temperature not exceeding 27 Β° .

Wet Latex Paints

Such products, like alkyd ones, create a very flexible film on the surface of the walls, including masking various kinds of minor defects. The advantages of latex paints, apartment owners, among other things, include the attractive appearance of finished surfaces. Another advantage of such coatings is resistance to mechanical stress.

Latex paint

The main disadvantage of latex paints is that they never include antifungal agents. In order to prevent black spots from appearing later on on walls decorated with such paint, surfaces must first be treated with an antifungal compound.

Use such a tool is only in the bathroom. For kitchens, latex dyes do not work well. The fact is that such coatings can fade in the sun. Also, dyes of this type do not tolerate low temperatures.

Oil coatings

Once upon a time, such paints for wet rooms in our country were used very often. Nowadays, such compositions in residential buildings are practically not used. Oil colorants are used today mainly only for decoration of various kinds of structures on the street (arbors, fences, terraces, etc.).

The main disadvantage of oil coatings is a very unpleasant smell when used. Such paints smell even worse when decorating surfaces than enamels. At the same time, they dry for a long time.

Another drawback of oil paints is that they create an absolutely vapor-proof film on the surface. Consequently, for the bathroom they do not fit too well. The walls in such rooms must "breathe".

The advantages of paintwork of this variety include primarily low cost. Of all the types of paints discussed above, oil is the cheapest.

Use oil coatings in bathrooms, usually only for concrete floors. Thus, this tool, for example, is often used in old apartments in Khrushchev.

Acrylic Dyes

Rules for application in wet rooms

Moisture-proof dye of any kind can last on the walls and floors in the bathroom for a very long time. However, the long service life of such a paintwork will, of course, only if it is applied correctly. Painting walls in kitchens and bathrooms usually looks something like this:

  • the old coating is removed from the surfaces - tiles, pieces of exfoliated plaster, paint;

  • the walls are cleaned, carefully leveled and, if necessary, putty;

  • two layers of primer are applied to the surface thus prepared.

At the final stage, the actual coloring of the walls is performed. Using this technology, surfaces are painted with β€œTex” paint washable, latex, alkyd and any other.
