One of the types of steel metal is a rectangular pipe. If you look at the product from the end part, you can see a hollow rectangle with rounded corners. From the profile form, the material got its name.
Pipes of rectangular cross section, presented on the metal rolling market, are produced in several ways.
To obtain seamless rectangular products, round tubes are used as blanks. They are rolled in a cold or hot state, and at the outlet a cold or hot deformed product is obtained.
The next type are electric-welded pipes (steel rectangular). They are bent on special equipment, and subsequently welded with a straight seam. This pipe may be subjected to cold calibration, after which receive the finished product. This production method allows to obtain a material with a cleaner surface and accurate dimensions.
The rectangular pipe has a fairly wide range. The main characteristic of the product is its external dimensions. The first in the list of materials of this type is the smallest pipe, the outer dimensions of which are 15 by 10 millimeters. Moreover, the wall thickness varies from 1 to 2 mm. The largest representative of profile rectangular pipes is a product of 180 by 150 mm (with a wall thickness of 8 to 14 mm).
They also produce materials with special dimensions, which, with a wall thickness of 8 mm, reach “dimensions” of 230 per 100 mm.
The cost of products depends on their size. A wide assortment allows you to easily find the right material. The price of the product also depends on the brand of metal from which it is made.
State standards provide for 2 accuracy classes (normal and high), which a rectangular pipe can have.
Products are made of carbon steel of usual quality, while their mechanical properties are normalized (group A). In addition, the material is made of quality steel (group B). In the second case, the mechanical characteristics and chemical composition of the steel are normalized.
Standards also impose requirements on the quality of the surface that a rectangular pipe should have. These criteria are very stringent, so the material is durable and high quality.
Light weight, ease of use and high strength properties determine the main areas of application of products. First of all, these materials are used for the manufacture of various complexity of metal structures.
