Exotic Brugmansia: home growing

Brugmansia is known for its large, up to 30 cm long, tubular bell-shaped flowers. They are popularly called the “trumpet of the archangel,” because in appearance they look like wind musical instruments. This plant is rather capricious. Flowers that bloom in the morning may suddenly close during the day due to the heat. Datura is a relative of Brugmansia, so it has the same poisonous flowers and intoxicating aroma. But this does not frighten those who are growing Brugmansia.

Brugmansia cultivation
Cultivating it is a very troublesome business. Most often fragrant, arboreal and blood-red are found in culture. This plant is an evergreen shrub with a height of not more than two meters. This flower is very thermophilic, so even the slightest frost is destructive for it. In winter, the temperature in the room where it grows should be at least 5 degrees. The plant has a very powerful and well-developed root system, so the volume of the tub in which it grows must be at least 10 liters.

With the onset of spring, Brugmansia should be brought to fresh air and sunlight. This should be done gradually so that the plant does not receive sunburn. During the hot summer months, the flower should be in the fresh air and in bright sunlight. If you have your own garden or summer house, you can plant the plant in open ground or put a tub with it on a loggia or balcony. Brugmansia, the cultivation of which in the fresh air and in natural light is very beneficial for the plant, will delight you with luxurious flowers.

Brugmansia seed cultivation
Especially close attention should be paid to the soil when growing Brugmansia. The plant develops very well in a rich nutrient soil, which consists of humus and loam. Flowers living in a tub should have good drainage. On sunny days, you need to water them every day, on cloudy days as necessary. With a lack of water, the plant can lose buds and leaves.

Regardless of where the flower grows - in the tub or in the ground - during the season it grows to one meter. Exotic Brugmansia, the cultivation of which requires close attention and care, begins to delight its owners with beautiful flowers in July and August.

In autumn, Brugmansia must be brought into the room to protect it from the onset of cold weather. When transplanting back into the tub at the flower, the largest roots are cut. The plant should have as many asymmetric leaves as possible, on which future flowering depends. If in the room where the flower is transferred for the winter, the temperature is not lower than 15 degrees, then the plant will continue to bloom for a long time. Remember that at temperatures below 5-7 degrees Brugmansia can die. In addition, the drying of the root system is detrimental to the plant.

Brugmansia seeds
How does such a rare and unusual plant as brugmansia breed? Growing from the seeds of this flower is rarely used. Using this method of reproduction, do not forget that the seeds of Brugmansia, like all parts of the plant, are very poisonous.

Most often, Brugmansia is propagated by cuttings. For rooting, cut shoots are placed in water or immediately into the ground, covered with a jar on top. Do not forget about the shape of the leaves of the plant. The lower symmetrical leaves are responsible for growth, and the upper asymmetric for flowering. Therefore, a flower grown from cuttings taken from the upper part of the plant will bloom faster in spring.

Brugmansia, the cultivation of which was carried out in accordance with the above rules, will develop well and give its beauty to everyone around.
