Who does not like to contemplate beautiful, delicate flowers on his plot ? Godetia is one of such beautiful species. This is an annual plant. Currently, it is very popular with gardeners. Godetsia is distinguished by the exquisite beauty of flowers and ease of care.
The plant has smooth, abundantly branched stems. Height is up to 60 cm. Flowers are bright, large, terry or simple. Diameter 5-7 cm. They are decorated in very lush inflorescences. When all the flowers bloom, the brush looks colorful and very elegant. Their color is different. Most often raspberry, pink, white, lilac and lilac-purple inflorescences are found. But very unusual flowers with variegated colors were also bred. Godetia pleases us with abundant flowering from mid-July to the first frosts. This plant looks great on garden beds, in summer cottages, in city parks. Godetsia are also suitable for cutting. But for this, tall varieties are grown. Increasingly, these unusually beautiful plants can be seen in the summer on the balconies.
But not only the beauty of their inflorescences is attracted by these amazing flowers - godetia. Growing it does not cause much trouble. This plant is unpretentious, photophilous and frost-resistant. The best place to plant is a sunny and open area away from the shade of trees and buildings. The plant tolerates night frosts to -3 degrees. For this reason, the seedlings are transferred to the open ground, not being afraid of the fact that the late frost will hit. There is no need to cover them, the survival of Godetia is very high.
Not capricious in the reproduction of these flowers. Godetia prefers neutral, rich in nutrient and mineral substances, loamy soils. Humidification should be moderate. Before digging the beds, organic fertilizers are applied to the soil. The best mixture consists of compost and humus, and minerals and wood ash are also added. This will provide plants with nutrition for the entire period of growth and flowering. If the summer period turned out to be very arid or, on the contrary, it often rains, godetia blooms very poorly.
Propagate the flower using seeds. They are planted in a pre-prepared pot in March. In open ground, seedlings are transferred in mid-May. The distance between the shoots is 20-25 cm. You can plant the seeds directly in the open ground in the first decade of June. They are lightly sprinkled with earth, planting depth up to 0.5 cm. The first shoots can be seen after 6-10 days. If a transplant is required, it must be borne in mind that this process is extremely painfully tolerated by flowers. Godetia often dies with improper and rough transplantation, especially if the roots are exposed. Therefore, the sprouts are transferred to a new place with a wet lump. You can use peat pots to grow seedlings.
There are several varieties of this plant:
- "Lovely" - with terry pink, red and white flowers. Their diameter is up to 8 cm. Height is 30-60 cm.
- Godetia varieties "Monarch". This is a mix of colors. The plant is stunted up to 20 cm. Flowers in the form of bells. It blooms through September.
- "Large-flowered". Funnel-shaped flowers. Plant height up to 40 cm.
All these varieties can be seen in magazines for flower growers, on specialized sites in the sections "Godetia. Photo". Flowers in the flower beds are often grown varieties "Large-flowered" and "Pretty." Godetia "Monarch" is not so popular because of its low stems - they are unsuitable for cutting.
