One of the most unusual places of recreation and entertainment in Kiev is the Green Theater, built on the territory of the ancient Pechora fortress and resembling an amphitheater in shape. The institution is located in the open, on the banks of the Dnieper. In Kiev, this is one of the best places to hold a party, concert or other entertainment event.
History of occurrence
According to some archival records, the original design, on the site of which the Green Theater (Kiev) is located today, went deep into the earth by 9 levels. By the middle of the XIX century there was a need to strengthen the territory of the Pechora fortress. To cover the ravine, which was located between Arsenalnaya Street (the modern name) and the Mariinsky Palace, as well as the water tower, it was decided to erect two retaining walls with internal galleries and loopholes. These fences were the military fortifications of the fortress and formed a kind of defensive structure. It could quite easily accommodate a small garrison of troops. Retaining walls were built in two stages. The first - the upper one - was built in 1853-1854. The second wall was built in 1856. It was a two-tier gallery with loopholes, having a semicircular shape and covering an access to the Chain Bridge and the Podolsky Gate (embankment verk). The underground passage, through which water pipes ran , connected both walls with Arsenalnaya Street. It housed workshops with a water tower on the Dnieper.
The existence in Soviet times
In the last twentieth century, at the very beginning, the Pechora fortress was turned into a warehouse and a water tower. In the post-war 1949, the architect Vlasov was instructed to build an entertainment center with a cinema hall, an amusement park and an open-air theater on the territory. After the Hydropark and the October Palace opened, the Green Theater (Kiev) was undeservedly forgotten by residents and visitors of the city. The revival of the building began in the early 80s of the last century. Rainwater drains and drain wells were put in order. Reconstructed and strengthened with granite walls, built balconies for several hundred places. Nowadays, this complex is practically not used, it is dilapidated, and in some places collapsed. Occasionally concerts are held there, but, in fact, the complex is forgotten.
Legends
A lot of mystical rumors and terrible riddles surround the Green Theater (Kiev). The reviews of local residents, and many visitors contain stories about ghosts wandering around the galleries, about people buried alive in the walls of the fortress. These stories follow the history of the building in a mystical train. They say that somewhere out there, in the very depths of the theater, no, no and yes a transition is opening between our and other worlds. Yes, and how not to be these rumors? Numerous fires that periodically strike lightning in a building, terrible and incomprehensible deaths of people, fantastic events and phenomena - this is what is rich in the history of this building.
It is not surprising that the territory where the Green Theater (Kiev) is located for some time was chosen by the sect of Satanists. At present, of course, no rites and sacrifices are being held. Like every “haunted house”, the Green Theater supposedly has its Owner. It appears on dark nights on the dilapidated walls of an ancient fortress. According to tradition, when visiting the theater it is necessary to greet the Boss, so as not to cause his discontent.
Modern Green Theater (Kiev)
The address where this building is located is Park Road 5. Today it is an open-air clubhouse. Until recently, it was an exclusively nightlife establishment. In 2014, the Green Theater venue also became a place of daytime relaxation. For visitors to the entertainment center, there is a swimming pool, game areas, grill bar. Awnings, under which hammocks are stretched, will save from the sultry sun. On the territory of the Green Theater, you can relax in the afternoon and have fun noisy at night.
