High beds in the country provide an opportunity to get good crops, it is easy and simple to care for them, they allow you to use any previously prepared soil and not depend on the quality of the land on the site. The construction is especially suitable for those who want to make changes to the style of their garden or garden, since the created beds perfectly fit into the design of any country gardens.
Vegetable crops can be planted in such constructions at the same time , and hanging plants hanging on the side, which will cling to their antennae, which will significantly save space. The advantage of high beds is the ease of care, now you do not have to bend low to process plants.
The best time to start the construction of structures is autumn. The beds in the garden are best placed in the direction from north to south, which will provide maximum light to the plants. In this case, special attention should be paid to the dimensions of the structure. The optimal width is 1.3 meters, while the length can be any according to the desire of the gardener, the height of the beds in some cases reaches 0.8 meters.
For construction, they choose a material that has sufficient strength and stability. For this, concrete and natural stones, massive wooden boards or round logs are suitable.
High beds are also suitable for arranging flower beds. For planting perennials it is not necessary to build a complex high structure, it will be enough to loosen the soil and in the right place make an embankment of humus to a height of 20 centimeters.
The same is done for the construction of heather beds on calcareous soils. To do this, the earth is mixed with sand and peat and build low flower beds, which are strengthened around the perimeter.
Construction includes the following works
First of all, they prepare a place for a structure on which it is required to remove the upper layers of the earth. Then, around the entire perimeter, a frame is set to a height of sixty centimeters. At the next stage, the bottom and sides are covered with a wire mesh to protect future plants from the invasion of field mice and moles.
The side walls should be covered with plastic wrap. At the bottom lay a layer of branches up to 25 cm high, on which pieces of turf (grass down) 10 cm thick are added. A layer of foliage should be poured on the turf. Next, compost is placed, the height of which is 15 cm. And already at the very top, dug up the earth with mature compost.
It is recommended to add clay minerals, algae lime, blood, bone or horn flour to the upper three layers. After that, high beds can be used for its intended purpose.
