Cooking is always accompanied by such unpleasant things as burning and soot. Eliminate these shortcomings can extractor hood. An outlet is an indispensable thing in the construction of a pipeline or duct. The concept, types, characteristics and requirements for installing bends will be discussed in detail in this article.
What is a challenge?
An outlet is an element of the duct that directs the air flow in the desired direction. In modern kitchen hoods, bends made of various materials, such as black, stainless, galvanized steel, aluminum or PVC, are used.
There are also bends that are designed for lateral emissions. They additionally have protective walls or perforated sheets that prevent debris from entering the ventilation.
Benefits of exhaust hoods
Cooker hoods with a vent to the ventilation have a number of undeniable advantages. These include:
- high level of cleaning;
- high power and productivity;
- savings due to the lack of the need to change air filters;
- affordable price.
And of course, the undoubted advantage of such models is the removal of unpleasant odors outside the premises, which guarantees high-quality air purification.
Disadvantages of exhaust hoods
No matter how tempting the bends for the hood are, they still have their drawbacks. The disadvantages of exhaust hoods include:
- high level of noise;
- the complexity of mounting the hood;
- the need to install an air duct;
But based on the purpose and purpose of the hood, namely cleaning the room from unpleasant odors, burning and soot, the tap is the optimal solution for fulfilling a given goal.
Branch Classification
In the construction of household air ducts, different models of kitchen hoods and, accordingly, different bends are used. Branches are classified according to the type of material used for their production:
- Branches galvanized. For their production, black steel with a thin zinc coating is used. The advantages of galvanized elbows are low cost and corrosion resistance.
- Stainless steel bends. They are rarely found in duct designs because of the relatively high cost. These models are produced exclusively with a small diameter, for installation in domestic ventilation systems.
- Branches from black steel. Draft bends are mainly used for the construction of industrial ducts. They have a low cost. The main disadvantages of this material are susceptibility to corrosion and unaesthetic appearance.
- Branches made of plastic. They are used only for the construction of domestic ventilation. In the process of their production, polymeric materials are used that are resistant to loads and deformations.
For each type of branch special requirements are presented. Branches, the guest of which is prescribed for each individual brand, are distinguished by strength, thickness, useful life and other parameters.
Which tap to choose - plastic or corrugated?
The most popular exhaust ducts are ducts made of plastic or aluminum. Plastic bends can be round and rectangular, and corrugated ducts only round.
When installing the bends, you should pay attention to the quality of the connections of all structural elements. Therefore, when buying a plastic outlet, it is recommended that you immediately buy parts and accessories for it so that in the future there are no problems with installing the duct. In turn, corrugated products do not need additional elements, as they have high flexibility, and they can also easily stretch and contract. Therefore, the installation of an aluminum corrugated duct is less time-consuming.
The installation process of this model consists of only two stages: the first is to fix the edge of the pipe to the ventilation hole, the second is to connect the duct to the exhaust outlet. One more advantage of corrugated aluminum branch is its small weight. The disadvantages include: a high level of noise, about the same as steel bends, and the accumulation of fat, burning and soot inside the duct.
Plastic bends look much more profitable in terms of operation, since they have less resistance, do not accumulate dirt and work without creating too much noise.
Branch cross-section
In addition to the classification of bends according to the type of material, when choosing a duct, several other factors must be taken into account, such as: the shape of the channel section and the configuration of the barrel.
When buying a duct, it is recommended to choose a round channel cross-sectional shape, since this type has the best aerodynamics. But if the kitchen is located in a small room, then the round branch will take up a lot of space and look quite unaesthetic. Therefore, to install the hood in a small room, it is better to opt for a hood with a rectangular duct. Such a model is mounted on the ceiling and, accordingly, take up less space. But it is worth paying attention to the fact that when installing a duct with a rectangular section, you will have to purchase several adapters in addition.
Branch Diameter
For the efficient operation of the kitchen hood, you must correctly select the diameter of the duct. In order for the hood to work without undue noise and to properly remove impurities from the air, you should choose bends with the same diameter of the exhaust outlet. In order to calculate what diameter the bends are needed, the guest has developed a special table for calculating the duct diameters. When operating an air duct with a smaller diameter, the exhaust power and, consequently, the level of air purification are significantly reduced.
In addition to the diameter of the branch, it is also worth taking care of how it is located. When installing the duct, it is important to avoid sharp and right angles. Bend 90 degrees bend loses up to 10% of the power of the exhaust device.
Retractable hood installation
Correctly establish a challenge - this means ensuring its effective and high-quality work. To install the exhaust hood, you must first calculate the distance and location of the hood above the stove. The space between the exhaust system and the gas stove should be sufficient so that the hood does not interfere with the use of the working surface of the stove. The optimal distance between them is 75 centimeters.
When constructing an air duct, it is important to remember that access to fresh air in the room must be maintained. To do this, mount a special grille with a valve in the duct. During the operation of the hood, the valve closes, and when turned off, it opens to ensure normal air circulation.
When installing steel or corrugated bends, it is necessary to consider their way to ventilation. Due to improper installation of the bends, the hood can lose up to 30% of its power. Therefore, when considering the duct path, make sure that the pipe does not have sharp or right angles. As already mentioned, the removal of 90 degrees of bending reduces the efficiency of the exhaust device.
To reduce the noise level of the hood, you must pay attention to the diameter of the branch. It should be larger than the outlet of the exhaust device. It is necessary to consider the type of device. For example, flat hoods are attached to the wall, and island hoods to the ceiling.
If you follow these simple recommendations, the hood in the kitchen will work as efficiently as possible, without causing unnecessary inconvenience to the residents of the house.
