What do you know about Vladivostok? What area is this?

“And Vladivostok - what region is this?” Apparently, at least once in a lifetime, such a question had to be heard by everyone who primarily deals with foreigners. Why? The thing is that Russia, as a rule, seems to them just a huge country, occupying most of the mainland - they are not used to dividing it into parts.

Although some citizens of our native country are also not particularly strong in geography, it means that the time has come to answer the question: “Vladivostok - what area?” - to close it once and for all. Moreover, not knowing about such an amazing city is probably just a shame.

Section 1. General description of the settlement

Vladivostok what area
Even for Russian residents, the center of Primorsky Krai, Vladivostok, seems to be located, as they say, on the edge of the earth.

And really, if you look, then everything here is completely different: both time, and relief, and the habits of local residents, and even street advertising.

Although, if you imagine where Vladivostok is, everything will actually fall into place. Initially, the city was built on the Muravyov-Amursky Peninsula, but over time its territory spread to the islands of the Sea of Japan , located in the bay with a very symbolic name of Peter the Great.

This city is very peculiar. It is often compared to San Francisco. All this thanks to the bridge built across the Golden Horn. Vladivostok takes on a futuristic image. A light Asian exotic, represented by right-hand drive cars and a mixture of hieroglyphs and Cyrillic letters, is all a common thing for a city like Vladivostok (the region, by the way, is no exception).

But, despite all this, the administrative center is a romantic settlement. The location of the city dictates its conditions: at any time of the year incredible, breathtaking, almost picturesque views open here. And from above, the city completely resembles Japanese engravings or films about the city of the future.

Section 2. Geographical location

Vladivostok region
The entire Vladivostok district is located on the territory of the Muravyov-Amursky peninsula, inclusive, up to the village of Trudovoe.

The composition of this territorial unit includes:

  • Russian island;
  • labor village;
  • Popova and Reineke islands ;
  • Beregovoye village.

The advantages of this arrangement abound. First of all, one can not help but mention that the Golden Horn is an excellent bay for ship parking. There are huge fishing and trade ports in size. From this it follows that entrepreneurs engaged in this business will never ask, speaking of Vladivostok: “What area?”

The largest rivers of the region are the First and Second, Sedanka, Explanations and Rich.

A hill called the Eagle's Nest is the highest point in the city of Vladivostok, or rather its historical part, on the outskirts there are places higher.

Section 3. Climate Features

where is Vladivostok
From a scientific point of view, it is believed that Vladivostok has a monsoon climate. In practice, this means the following:

  • winter in the city and the region is cool and dry, and the weather in the cold season is clear;
  • spring is quite long, the temperature often changes;
  • the summer is humid and warm; the maximum amount of precipitation falls on this season;
  • autumn is warm, precipitation decreases by winter, the first frosts mainly appear in early November.

The warmest month in Vladivostok is August, the temperature is +20 ... + 21 degrees Celsius. The coldest is January, the temperature is -11.3 ...– 11.5 degrees. The water temperature in August is +23 degrees, but only the most desperate and courageous decide to swim.

The average rainfall for the year is 818 millimeters.

Section 4. Main Attractions

Vladivostok what area
Let’s once again imagine where on a map or globe you can find Vladivostok (which region it was mentioned above). It is not surprising that so many different sights are concentrated in this place.

  • The Nikolaev Triumphal Gate was built at the end of the 19th century, in 1891. This decision was made by the Vladivostok City Council in order to perpetuate the memory of a visit to Vladivostok by Nikolai Alexandrovich, the future Russian emperor.
  • St. Nicholas Cathedral was built in 1907. The church was erected in memory of the Russian soldiers who fell in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905).
  • Oceanarium. The exposition in this maritime museum is in honor of the nature of the Pacific Ocean. A huge variety of wildlife of the seas, rivers and lakes of the Russian Far East.
  • Vladivostok funicular is one of a kind in the Russian Far East. It has been operating since 1962. The route of the funicular is from Sukhanov Street to Pushkinskaya Street. The path is one and a half minutes.
