What is a breadboard?

bread board
The breadboard is a universal printed circuit board, that is, a surface specially designed for mounting a variety of radio components. It has hundreds of holes that are electrically connected with metal strips. The terminals of the microcircuits and radio components are inserted into these small-sized holes, and then connected by means of pieces of stripped wires. At the same time, the rows of contacts located at the top, bottom and in the middle of the board are designed to combine numerous points of the circuit with ground and a power source. It should be noted that the breadboard does not require a soldering iron, flux and solder. In addition, when working with it there is no risk of overheating of the part, and also there are no difficulties with multiple installation of circuits.

Types of Development Boards

Currently, experts distinguish three main types of prototyping boards. Firstly, these are universal models, on the surface of which only

metallized holes. Subsequently, the developer will need to connect them using jumpers. The second type is specialized boards. On such surfaces there are both standard chains (pre-divorced) and tracks and holes designed for non-standard chains. And finally, the third type includes a printed circuit board designed for digital devices. In this case, power buses were drawn across the entire surface, and the intended locations for microcircuits were also outlined.

DIY made breadboard

Making a homemade board, if necessary, is quite simple and affordable for anyone. Non-folded textolite is best suited as the material for its base. The lines of the breadboard in this case can be applied using a ruler and a sharp awl. As for the holes, they can be made using a drill 0.8. The conductors themselves can be made of copper wire, and the necessary radio components are installed by soldering. At the same time, all the elements are attached not from the bottom, but from the top. In addition, it is very important that the conclusions

radio components were bent so that they went parallel to the contact conductors. The base of the breadboard is ready!

Problems using breadboards

Developers who, because of their activities, constantly use prototypes of various electronic devices, note that their use is usually associated with a number of problems. The first of them is the most obvious and lies in the fact that any breadboard is soldered manually. And in case of an error in the circuit, it has to be soldered. Secondly, it should be said that to create a single prototype of an electronic device, making a printed circuit board quite often is simply unprofitable. Thirdly, if circuits on analog microcircuits of a low degree of integration are allowed to be carried out by a mounted installation method, then microprocessor equipment is very difficult to do. Taking into account all these aspects, you need to analyze everything in advance before you start working with a device such as a breadboard.
