The Sea of Galilee is the biblical name for the unique Lake of Galilee, located in Israel. This pond is not called the sea because of its size or
especially salty water, but because of its historical significance. According to Christian chronicles, it was on these shores that Christ began to preach, it was from the cities located earlier on these shores that most of his disciples and followers hailed. It was the Sea of Galilee that became the first place where Jesus showed miracles to the world. Geographically, the coast of Lake Kinneret is one of the lowest points on the earth's surface. It is below sea level by about 210 meters. It is difficult to say the exact figure - the water level in the lake is highly dependent on the amount of precipitation that fell in the autumn-winter period. The length of the coastline also depends on this, and, of course, the depth.
The Sea of Galilee is of great importance for Israel - this is a third of the country's fresh water supply, therefore the amount of water in the lake is the subject of close attention of both the government and ordinary citizens. About 50 species of fish live here, some of them are very rare and are not found anywhere else. It is in this lake that St. Peter's fish is caught, which is offered in the surrounding restaurants. Many claim that it is very tasty. If you are planning to visit Israel in the near future, be sure to try it, because recently a proposal has been discussed to temporarily ban fishing of the Sea of Galilee in order to restore its population, but, as you know,
there is nothing more permanent than temporary solutions.
The weather in the region of the Sea of Galilee is famous for its unpredictability: the sun was just shining, it was quiet and calm, but suddenly a strong wind comes in, a wild storm breaks out. Only old fishermen, living on the coast for years, can predict the bad weather on one of their noticeable, barely perceptible signs.
This lake has many names: the Sea of Galilee, the Gennisaret or Hinneref Sea. Also, this pond is called Lake Tiberias (sea) or, as already mentioned, Lake Kinneret. It is easy to get confused in such a multitude of names, but in fact they all designate the same body of water. Along its shores are many attractions that Israel is so famous for. The sea or the lake is not so important, the historical and cultural monuments are important, the legends were witnesses of the events that took place in these places. But there were many events, and, fortunately, there are many holy places where many visitors aspire. Many of those who have visited this sea lake speak of the extraordinary state of mind that comes near this place. Even if you do not believe what is described in the New Testament, it is definitely worth a visit to this extraordinary place.
