Pattern of a man's jacket: features, models and recommendations

When buying a thing in a store, people face a number of problems. Either there is no suitable size, then the color of the buttons does not like, then it fits poorly, then the sleeve is too wide. In general, choosing the perfect model is not always possible.

Each of us at least once thought about the independent tailoring of things, but often this is postponed until later. Only a few bring the matter to an end, starting to sew things on their own. The rest continue to wear purchased things that they don’t really like. But once you decide to experiment and sew a skirt, shirt, dress, thing for a child for an ideal model, and then, having gained experience, you can switch to more complex models. For example, you can sew outerwear on your own, then your jacket or coat will be unique. Let's try to sew a product on a pattern of a men's jacket. Your man will be pleasantly surprised to receive as a gift a new jacket of the appropriate size and perfect cut.

Where to start?

The most difficult thing for a beginning seamstress is to choose a good pattern. It is not necessary to have a ready-made pattern of a men's jacket in stock. You can take an old jacket, examine where, where and what is sewn on paper to draw a model that is planned for sewing. Then take a suitable sample of a pattern of a men's jacket and independently build a scheme.

The pattern of the men's jacket is the basis of all the work. The fate of the finished product depends on the quality of its execution. Therefore, you should treat this stage of work very responsibly. So, we begin the construction of the pattern of the men's jacket by drawing the desired model on large sheets of paper, then cut out the pieces on the unnecessary fabric and fit them to the mannequin. Thus, having a perfect finished pattern, you can proceed directly to sewing.

Step number 1. We prepare the necessary materials

For sewing we will need a sewing machine and all sewing accessories: threads, scissors, needles, ruler, pencil, centimeter meter and other trifles. It is also important to determine in advance what fabric the jacket will be made of, how to insulate it, decorate it.

For a warm autumn men's jacket you will need:

  • faux leather canvas
  • raincoat fabric (for individual parts of the jacket)
  • lining material
  • insulation (synthetic winterizer)
  • 1 long zipper
  • 2 small zippers on pockets
  • some fabric for decoration
  • fur belt on the hood.

So, having prepared all the necessary materials and patterns for a men's jacket with a hood, we get to work.

Step number 2. Transfer patterns to fabric

Using a piece of chalk or soap, we transfer the elements of the jacket from the paper to the main fabric and insulation, adding a couple of centimeters along the edges to the seams. We get the same pattern of a men's jacket, but already on the fabric. When everything is drawn, carefully cut out the details of the jacket from the main fabric and insulation along the contour of the jacket with scissors. It is also necessary to cut the details into the hood and into 2 patch pockets.

Step number 3. We sew pockets

To make the pockets the same and beautiful, it is advisable to draw a pattern for them too.

The sewing process itself begins with sewing on the insulation. For convenience, it is better to make a double layer, so the first you need to grind with the top of the jacket, the second layer with a lining. An important point - if you are going to make the top of the jacket quilted, then you need to leave good allowances, 7-10 centimeters at all seams, since the fabric is pulled together with the stitch. You can prepare the pockets. To do this, take the cut out pocket and attach a zipper to it. The same thing is repeated with the second pocket. You can stitch the zipper right away on a sewing machine, without frosting, as traces can remain on the raincoat from frosting.

On the second part of the shelf we sew on strips, a little larger in size than our pocket will be. We fold the shelves with their front sides, mark the pockets and shorten them. We cut off the excess insulation. Next, we attach pocket zippers to the stitched rectangle and also sew at a low speed of the sewing machine. We cut the burlap of the pocket from the lining and fleece and attach it to the zipper. The same thing is repeated with the second pocket.

Step number 4. Collect jacket

To assemble the upper part of the jacket, you need to make tucks on the back, then sew the shoulder seams, outline the places for the sleeve.

We take up the sleeves. We hem the insulation to the wrong side of the sleeve, sew a lining on top of it and attach it all on a sewing machine. Similarly, repeat with the second sleeve and briefly set it aside. Now, based on the pattern of the men's jacket, we sew a lining. This is done by analogy with the tailoring of a jacket from the main material. Transfer the pattern from paper to fabric, cut and attach the front parts with the back, sew the shoulder seams. When there is already a stitched lining and stitched parts from the base material, we do the same from the insulation material. Thus, we have, as it were, 3 short-lived jackets and completely finished sleeves.

Now it's time to do the hood. To do this, we take the pattern of the hood, transfer it from paper to fabric, to the lining and insulation, all this is cut out and basted.

ready-made pattern of men's jacket

Do not forget to cut off the excess insulation so that nothing sticks out under the seams. Now we decide whether we make a removable hood or not. If the hood on the jacket is not removable, then we attach the main fabric of the hood to the main fabric of the jacket, there will be a heater between them, and we sew the lining together. If the hood will be removed, then we attach it to the jacket in the same sequence, but with the help of a zipper, namely: we attach one strip of zipper to the hood to its lower part, we sew the other half into the jacket.

It turns out that we have a ready-made hood separately from the jacket, which we can fasten if necessary. Instead of zippers, buttons can be used for the removable hood. For beauty, you can sew a fur edge on the edges of the hood. It can be made whole or with a zipper so that it can be removed if necessary. If the hood itself is solid, then there is no point in making a detachable edge.

Step number 5 completion

Now you need to connect all the details of the jacket together. We have a jacket itself, a hood and 2 sleeves. We turn the jacket on the wrong side and attach the sleeves. The lining is connected to the lining, the main part with the main part. We fasten the hood and the jacket is ready. If you wish, before attaching the sleeves, you can make the cuffs from a dense fabric or knit so that the lining does not accidentally stick out from under the sleeves.

We conclude that it is not difficult to sew a jacket if there is a good pattern, because it is the basis for a men's jacket, as well as for tailoring for any product.
