The Internet has become one of the main needs of people for communication, surfing in cyberspace and finding important information. This is a field for the existence of both business and life support systems. Therefore, when he suddenly disconnects, and the user receives the message “Limited Internet access”, this is very annoying, because then the information life stops.

The main thing about network failure

A connection failure message is displayed when the computer is having network configuration problems. It may also mean that there is no connection or a limited connection. For example, a computer detects that a network is present and operational. This indicates that the network cable is connected or the PC is connected to a wireless access point, and the request for the IP address has remained unanswered.

The vast majority of machines are configured to connect to the network using DHCP with a dynamic IP address. This means that instead of constantly assigning a specific IP, the machine requests an address when connected to the network. Dynamic IP addresses are easier to configure and can be reused when the systems to which they were temporarily assigned are taken offline.

In other words, the computer receives both its IP address and instructions on how to communicate with the rest of the world. If no response is received, the PC will repeat the request several times: “If the DHCP server is listening, assign me an IP address!”, And if it is rejected, the message “Limited Internet access” will appear.

The first step to solving the problem is to launch the network troubleshooting tool:

1. Right-click the Wi-Fi image (or LAN) icon in the lower right part of the taskbar.
2. Select “Troubleshooting,” the “Wi-Fi connected with limited access” section.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the problem.

Nodes that are important for access

3. Subnet mask - used to distinguish a network identifier from a host on a local network or an external network.
4. Gateway - for connecting 2 or more networks.
5. Broadcast - an address used to send or receive information that should be known to all access points existing in the network.

If Internet access is limited, and what to do is not clear, then it is recommended to check whether the necessary network services are running:

1. COM event system.
2. DHCP / DNS clients.
3. Network location information.

The easiest way to verify that the failure is not connected to the PC is to connect another machine to this packet distribution point. If it works normally, then the problem is in the laptop and you need to check the operability of devices connected to the network connection.

To fix the “Limited Internet Access” failure, check if the necessary service is running:

1. Press the Win + R keys at the same time to open the command window. At the startup line, type: services.msc and press Enter.
2. Find in turn all the services from the above list and check if the "Status" works.
3. If it is found that the service is not running, right-click the service and select "Properties".
4. Set the startup type to “Automatic” and click “OK”.
5. Reboot the computer.
6. After the reboot, make sure that the service is running and check the Internet connection.

Possible causes of network outages

The parameters of the Winsock TCP / IP stack can sometimes be damaged, which causes problems with connecting to the Internet and various network errors, including the inability to access the network with a browser error “Page cannot be displayed,” even if the network card is connected, while ICS service is also terminated.

In order to reset the TCP / IP stack in Windows 7/8/10 when they have limited access to the Internet at work, perform the following steps:

1. Run the command line with administrator privileges.
2. Click "Start" and type: cmd in the text box.
3. Right-click CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER to start with administrator privileges.
4. Type: netsh winsock reset in the shell and press Enter.

The problem with connecting Windows 10/8

Many users claim that they solved this network problem by resetting the BIOS to default. If the user has a built-in network adapter, he can configure it from the BIOS.
