The Kalinin metro line is currently successfully operating only in the eastern direction. Its first section was put into operation more than thirty years ago. Trains began to deliver passengers from the Novogireevo station to the Taganskaya area to the Marxistskaya station, where it became part of a large interchange hub, allowing you to cross the Koltsevaya and Zhdanovsk-Krasnopresnenskaya lines. In subsequent years, the Kalinin metro line continued east to the Novokosino station and in the direction of Zamoskvorechye to the Tretyakovskaya station. Plans for its further development have been discussed for a long time and repeatedly revised. There is no complete clarity on this issue at the present time.

However, the current section of the Kalinin line is notable in many respects. Most of it went into operation before the new 1980, before the opening of the Olympics in Moscow. The stations of the opened line in architectural terms looked very worthy. All of them were made according to individual projects, and no one saved money on their design and decorative decoration. Instead of cheap tiles and standard reinforced concrete, granite, marble, brass and bronze returned to their rightful places. The Kalinin metro line marked the beginning of a new era in the history of the Moscow metro. It was finally over with the notorious “struggle against architectural excesses”, which so thoroughly mutilated many stations in the peripheral part of the Moscow (and not only the Moscow) metro. In architectural and urban planning, the sound idea that the metro has been built for centuries has prevailed, and this is not the case when savings are appropriate.
What will happen next
Kalinin metro line in the diagram is indicated by traditional yellow color. Apparently, this is due to the name of the area where the line was originally supposed to lead. In many old sources, it is still designated as "Kalinin-Solntsevskaya metro line." The scheme of its development assumed a turn in the south towards the Solntsevo area. But time has made adjustments to these plans. The protracted crisis of the nineties and the changed plans of the city authorities in the field of transport infrastructure development intervened in the situation . But these plans have changed repeatedly and in the most unexpected directions.
In order to save material resources in Solntsevo began to build a light metro line. It should connect in the shortest way the areas located on the southern outskirts with the central part of the city. And the existing Kalinin line will be further developed in the western direction. The Tretyakovskaya station will soon cease to be final, the train will continue on to Volkhonka, Plyushchikha, Kutuzovsky Prospekt, Delovoy Tsentr and Pobedy Park stations. A final decision has not yet been made on the prospects for the further construction of the Kalinin line. We can only say with confidence that the Park Pobedy station will not last very long.
