You can take a motorcycle helmet as the basis , but not every child can carry it comfortably for several hours. Therefore, this accessory is best made from papier-mâché. It will turn out quite easy, and you do not need to spend a lot of money on materials.

How to make an astronaut helmet?

Inflate a balloon to a size so that it is significantly larger than the child’s head. Try to bring the shape closer to spherical. Also keep in mind that the bottom of the workpiece will need to be cut so that you can freely put on the helmet.

Make a paste. To do this, combine water with flour and boil the resulting mixture a little over a fire. The mass should be without lumps and thick enough as sour cream. Paste office paper and newspapers into pieces while the paste cools down. It is not recommended to cut with scissors, otherwise the parts will not catch well with each other.

So that the finished helmet of the astronaut can be easily removed, grease the balloon with oil or petroleum jelly. Make the first layers of papier-mâché from office paper, as it is denser. Dip the tattered pieces in a paste and overlap the ball. So do a few layers until the workpiece is strong enough. How to determine this? Look at the wall thickness, it should be a few millimeters. Do not forget to dry the craft for a day between the layers and at the very end, when it is ready.

Blow out the ball carefully so as not to crush the workpiece. Cut holes in the bottom and front. Now the base looks like an astronaut's helmet. Try it on, it should be easy to put on and take off.

How to decorate a helmet?

Optionally, you can cut glass from a plastic bottle and stick to the helmet. Just remember to singe or close the sharp edges. Be sure to ensure that the child’s helmet has access to oxygen! Therefore, make ventilation holes if necessary.

The basis of the costume can be glued with foil or painted. The real astronaut helmet is white or silver, so give preference to these colors. The product is made for the child, so choose safe paints (for example, acrylic or gouache).
