In the center of the capital is the huge and oldest in Russia zoo, which covers an area of more than 21 hectares and is divided into two territories - the old and the new.
How many animals are in the Moscow zoo?
The zoo holds more than 8 thousand animals and breeds rare and endangered species. By the 150th anniversary, in 2014, a tropical greenhouse was opened, which contains more than 100 species of exotic fauna.
The animals of the Moscow Zoo are mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and invertebrates. Some species are kept in the nursery near Volokolamsk. The zoo constantly updates its nurseries and makes exchanges with other zoo nurseries around the world, so the number of animals in the Moscow zoo is constantly changing.
Predators

Gray wolves - male and female - have been living since 2013 and are kept in an aviary, which is located opposite the Skating Circle.
Asian jackal (female) has been living since 2015.
Wolverine - male and female - live separately in the aviary in the new territory.
Raccoon dog - contained in the old territory in a decorative paddock.
Jaguarundi (feline family) - the couple lives in the old territory.
Steppe cat (Indian subspecies) - two females live in a separate aviary on the territory of the zoo, and at night they are released to walk in enclosed nurseries.
The polar wolf is male and female.
The otter is ordinary - the animals live and breed in the triple pool.
Puma (feline family, mammals of America) - a large male can be seen in the feline series.
Striped skunk - in winter it lives next to tapir, and in summer with giraffe and donkeys (the ductal glands are removed).
Himalayan bear - contained in a bear enclosure made of logs.
Meerkats - live in the zoo since 2009, in the pavilion "Ungulates of Africa".
Red Lynx - The female has been living near the European lynx for more than 20 years.
Striped Hyena - is endangered, the male is on the site of young animals.
The Arctic fox is located on the corner of the Cat's Row (old territory), between the cougar and the red wolves.
Red fox - several individuals live in the old territory in the aviary, next to the fence and the "Japanese Corner".
Pallas - are on display between spectacle bears and cats of the tropics.
Kinkaju - a view on the verge of extinction, the male is in the aviary of the Night World exposition.
Striped raccoon - animals live together with raccoon dogs and representatives of the canine family in the old territory, behind a complex of marine mammals.
European Lynx - contained in the "Cat's Row" in the old territory, spends most of the time on the balconies.
Far Eastern leopard - the species is on the verge of extinction, representatives can be seen in the Cat's Row in the old territory.

The zoo has been kept since 1898. Three elephants are kept next to the Bird House in the new elephant. They are about 30 years old. In the summer, animals are in outdoor sections with a pool, and in winter they can be found inside a closed cozy pavilion.

In addition to mammals, the zoo contains more than 70 species of birds. In the central part is located a lake of amazing beauty with red flamingos.
At the crossing there is a large pond with many varieties of waterfowl, such as ducks, dryland, Nile goose, mountain goose, swans. Several rare species listed in the Red Book are contained in the Bird House pavilion. These species are: red or red ibis, Kaffir horned raven, Humboldt penguin and others.

Visitor Information
We briefly talked about what animals live in the Moscow Zoo.
