The history of the name of the metro Taganskaya

In 2010, the capital of Russia celebrated a special anniversary - the metro turned 75 years old. After the construction of the metro ring line was completed in the 1950s, its first section came into operation. Its total length was only 6.4 km, and it consisted of 6 stations, including the Taganskaya metro station.

Many are familiar with songs in which it is sung about the Tagan prison, which was located on the square with the same name. And what happened long before the theater and metro station appeared here?

Moscow, Taganskaya Square is no less famous place than Republic Square in Paris. The name "Taganka" comes from the old road that led from Moscow through the Tagansky Gate. There is such a point of view that this name comes from the old Russian word "tagan". This was the name of the craft of most people living in the area, making iron tripod stands, on which pots and boilers for cooking were installed. Archery troops carried such tagans with them during their campaigns.
