Review of Nokia 8850. Features and specifications

In 1999, Nokia released another representative of the business class - model 8850. The device stands out for its elegant and expensive appearance. A solid device is interesting not only in design, but also in its functionality.

Appearance

Nokia 8850

It is striking that the Nokia 8850 is primarily the case material. The phone is completely made of thin and light metal with a small plastic insert above the antenna. Despite the body material, the device weighs only 91 grams. This is slightly larger than the models made of plastic.

On the front side of the Nokia 8850 are controls, buttons, a microphone, a display, a speaker and a logo. It should be noted the location of the keys. The answer and end, selection and control buttons are not covered by a pull-out panel. The user will be able to make calls, open the phone book and work with the device without opening the slider. However, to dial SMS and numbers, you still have to open the panel.

On the left side, the manufacturer placed a slightly sunken metal volume control. The button came out not very successful. When talking, raising the volume level is problematic, you have to remove the device from the ear. Below the regulator is the infrared port. On top of the device placed the power key and the hole designed for the belt.

Work with a device

The buttons hidden behind the slider turned out to be not very successful. The keys are made of metal, but they are quite narrow. Pressing the buttons is not very convenient, which is especially noticeable in games and SMS. The slider also serves for another purpose: by opening or closing it, you can accept or reject the call. This solution is especially convenient in the dark.

The back panel of the device is removable. However, there is a trick. In order to get to the battery and SIM card slot, you need to press the inconspicuous button on the right side of the Nokia 8850. The battery and the place for the SIM card are hidden behind the panel. It is impossible to remove or install a SIM card without removing the battery.

Communication

The device works in two modes: GSM 1800 and 900. It supports SMS device and graphic image transmission. Among other devices, the Nokia 8850 is characterized by increased volume as a conversational, and there is a main speaker.

The device perfectly picks up a signal, there should be no communication problems. The only drawback is that the conversation has a noticeably inconvenient microphone position. This is noticeable if you answer the call with the receive key without opening the slider. The microphone is too far away, the interlocutor does not hear the conversation well.

To receive data, the device has an infrared port and a TTML browser for using the Internet. The machine is equipped with a fax modem capable of supporting up to 9600 baud.

Display

Nokia 8850 review

The user will not be particularly surprised by the monochrome screen of the Nokia 8850. The display overview is distinguished only by an unusual bluish backlight, which emphasizes the appearance of the device. Five lines of text are placed on the screen. It is comfortable to work with the display due to the powerful and at the same time soft backlight.

Memory

You can enter up to 250 numbers in the device and the same amount fits on the SIM card. The number of saved calls is also limited. The device saves only ten of the last received, unpleasant and dialed numbers. Things are a little better with the organizer of the device. The calendar is designed for 50 entries.

Autonomy

The manufacturer has allocated for the needs of 8850 a battery with a capacity of 750 maH. Given the minor functionality and monochrome screen, autonomy is high. The phone is able to work for about 150 hours in passive mode. Active use will "land" the battery much faster, in just three days.

Reviews

Nokia 8850 photo

Most of the owners at first glance liked the Nokia 8850. The photo of the device found on the network interested in design and unusualness. Strict and at the same time elegant appearance became the key to the popularity of the device.

Users have preferred the 8850 because of its robustness. Thin metal withstands drops and is almost not subject to scratches. For active people, 8850 is a real find.

Fakes

A significant problem for buyers was copies of the Nokia 8850. How to distinguish a fake is what interests many users. The great popularity of the model gave rise to a lot of imitators, so you should be careful. Choosing 8850, you should pay attention to the country of manufacture, the protective film, the case material, small elements and, of course, the working platform.
