The city of Kirov is not only an administrative center, but also an important industrial, cultural and historical center of its region. This is one of the oldest cities in Russia. It was founded back in 1174 on the Vyatka River (by the way, that was what it was originally called - Vyatka). Where is Kirov and how far is the city from Moscow?
Kirov is a fairly large city located in the European part of Russia. It is the administrative center of the homonymous region. To find out where Kirov is located relative to Moscow, just look at the map of the country. The city is located 900 kilometers northeast of the capital.
The village on the banks of the Vyatka River experienced several renaming. The chain of modifications of its name looks something like this: Vyatka - Khlynov - Vyatka - Kirov. In 2008, part of the public raised the issue of returning the city to its original name. However, case studies have shown that most urban residents do not support this idea.
Where is Kirov located in terms of physical geography? The city is located in the Vyatka River Valley, within the Russian Plain. The territory of Kirov occupies seven low hills. The city is located in the natural zone of the southern taiga and is surrounded by pine and fir-fir forests.
What to see in Kirov: the main attractions of the city
With the sights in Vyatka, everything is fine, as experienced tourists say. Museums, parks, ancient buildings and temples, numerous monuments of architecture and history - all this can be seen here. Unfortunately, the Vyatka Kremlin has not reached our days. But the ensemble of the Trifonov Monastery, which was founded in the 16th century, was perfectly preserved.
Visiting cards of the city can be considered local kvass, as well as two folk crafts: openwork Vyatka lace and the famous Dymkovo clay toy.
