The city of Podolsk is the capital of the Podolsky district, located in the Moscow region. It has a regional significance. Podolsk stands on the Pakhra River, just 15 kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road. The north of the city adjoins directly to the capital.
In the place of modern Podolsk, the village of Podol was previously located. It served as an important transit point in the Smolensk and Moscow principalities. There are tales about the name of the village: supposedly Empress Catherine, driving here, wet the hem of her dress.
By 1781, the village received city status. The number of residents has increased significantly.
At the end of the XIX century, a railway line of the Kursk direction was drawn through Podolsk. This gave an impetus to the industrial development of the city. Numerous enterprises, factories, factories began to appear, for example, the sewing tycoon Zinger.
