The name "Bor Bridge" now means a complex bridge across the Volga in the region of Nizhny Novgorod, different parts of which were commissioned at different time periods. In fact, these are two bridges located nearby. This is a railway and combined bridges. The railway bridge over the Volga was built in the first half of the thirties as one of the significant construction projects of the first Soviet five-year plans. In the sixties of the last century, its capacity ceased to correspond to needs. And in parallel with it, a combined bridge was erected downstream. It is a two-tier structure, along the lower part of which there are trains, and the top is intended for automobile transport.
Bor bridge today
The main problem of the bridge over the Volga in the region of Nizhny Novgorod is the fact that he has exhausted his technical resource. A big design mistake is the fact that the Bor Bridge has only two lanes for automobile traffic. Perhaps for the sixties this was quite acceptable, but the designer is simply obliged to look a little further. Today, the bridge is not able to cope with traffic. Its automobile layer is constantly in a state close to emergency, through its cracks in many places you can observe the water surface without leaving your car. In order to ensure movement through the Borsky Bridge in Nizhny Novgorod, it is necessary to periodically build temporary pontoon crossings over the Volga. And as you know, there is nothing more permanent than temporary. Even the very expensive overhaul carried out in 2007 could not fundamentally change the tense transport situation.
New Bor Bridge
The current situation required radical changes. Sustainable traffic flow through the Volga in both directions could not even ensure the intense operation of the Borsk bridge. 2013 was a turning point. On both banks of the Volga, preparatory work began on the preparations for the construction of a new bridge. Approaches to the future bridge and transport interchanges are already under construction. This is a perfectly justified sequence of actions, because without providing an adjacent road infrastructure, the bridge does not make much sense.

It is planned to build a new Bor bridge in three years. It will be located parallel to the existing bridge, about sixty meters downstream. Its design and architectural solutions and features are currently under development. Among other things, the new construction is obliged to provide unhindered navigation along the Volga channel. At the construction of the new bridge, innovative innovative technologies will be applied. It will be mandatory to take into account the positive experience of the construction of a subway line bridge a little earlier in Nizhny Novgorod in the upper part of the city through the Oka River.
