Pants are the main subject of men's wardrobe. Someone loves the classics, someone more free style, someone sports, but this thing always remains the main thing.

Everyone who purchases trousers on the market is faced with the fact that the legs are either not hemmed at all, like the classic female and male models, or hemmed, but very long, such as jeans. It often happens that one leg is a few centimeters shorter than the other. And thoughts immediately begin to swarm in my head about how to cut them and how to properly hem pants after. And then everyone faces a dilemma: take the thing to the studio or modify it yourself.
The latter option will entail minimal costs, so many will prefer to dwell on it. And immediately the question arises: "How to hem pants?" What is needed in order to modify or shorten the bottom of the legs at home? And what tricks to work with different types of fabrics should be known to make a thing look perfect?
Classic pants
This type of trousers, regardless of the model, as a rule, is sold only with cuts of the legs processed by overlock. This is done in order not to tie the thing to a certain growth. Therefore, fitting is required before work. There is no one single rule on how to hem men's trousers ; each seamstress adds some nuances to the main recommendations.
Something like this should look like this:
- At the fitting, they tuck the trouser leg and mark the desired length with chalk or stab with a needle. Measure on the heel, preferably on a shod leg, so that the bottom does not reach the beginning of the heel of the shoes.
- The product is placed on the table, both legs are straightened and a horizontal line is drawn along the back half of the trousers from the mark to the seams. On the front half, the line can be raised upwards by half a centimeter. We duplicate these lines, stepping down 5 cm.
- The second leg is drawn in the same way as the first, having previously measured the main mark with a centimeter from the belt to the bottom of the product.
- Cut off all excess and process the edge with an overlock, zigzag or manually with a double stitch.
- It is very important not to ignore steaming and ironing. It is these works that need to be done on the front half of the trousers before bending the bottom. (Perhaps this item can be singled out as one of the most important in the question of how to hem the pants correctly. After all, if the front of the leg is not stretched, it will be ugly pulled.)
- The final stage is bending the bottom of the trousers and securing it by ironing the glue web. The ribbon is laid in a fold and, not reaching the seam, is ironed from the inside with a hot iron. (If the product’s fabric is very thin, it’s better to give preference not to the glue web, but to the usual thin non-woven fabric, from which strips are cut along the oblique, sew them with adhesive sides out and glue them with a hem.)
Jeans Pants
How to hem pants “under jeans”? It is easier to deal with such trousers, because here on the bottom of the trouser leg there is a machine line, but the presence of some unit is mandatory. The process looks something like this:
- trousers try on, mark and, stepping back from the mark 3 cm, cut off all unnecessary;
- then they tuck, smooth the folds from the inside and lay a line;
- the final stage is steaming the lines from the inside.
