Millennia ago, an occupation such as carving for fruits and vegetables appeared in eastern countries. It originated in faraway Asia and was called Kae Sa Luk. Today, various crafts from potatoes, zucchini, eggplant, pumpkin, watermelon and other vegetables and fruits are very popular all over the world and take pride of place in the list of the most popular hobbies. The modern name for this activity is carving.
Carving can rightfully be called art: from seemingly ordinary fruits and vegetables, you can create stunning sculptures, pretty figures, unusual table decorations.
Absolutely anyone can do carving, who has at least a little patience, willpower, zeal and time. Of course, at first, crafts from potatoes and other “materials” will be difficult, but over time and with experience they will turn out real masterpieces - juicy, vibrant, tasty and delicious.
In order for carving lessons to be fun, and the figures themselves to be neat and beautiful, you need to remember a few simple rules:
- Vegetables and fruits for crafts should be very carefully selected. For example, apples should be smooth skinned; tangerines and oranges - always fresh; cucumbers, carrots and potatoes are by no means lethargic; zucchini, watermelon and pumpkin should have a dense rough skin.

- To give contrast for decorating the table, it is advisable to choose products of bright colors - yellow, orange, red, green.
Many families enjoy various vegetable crafts with pleasure in the evenings or on weekends. Children can also be involved in this activity. Such family home gatherings contribute to the unity of the family, develop children's labor skills and
creative abilities. To begin with, you can entrust the child with simple crafts, and then gradually complicate the tasks. For example, you can offer him to make crafts from potatoes in the form of hedgehogs.

You can simply ask the child to turn on the imagination and create images of animals, snowmen, toys, and people as he sees them.
Homemade prints are also potato crafts. They are made as follows: they cut the potatoes in half, cut a hole in it in the form of the desired stamp, then simply dip it in paint. Print is ready.
