Coins were made from the alloy popular at that time - nickel silver. This is a combination of nickel, copper and zinc. Weighed a little over 1.6 grams. They have no magnetic characteristics and properties. There is a protruding edging on both sides.

The central part of 10 kopecks in 1984 is the emblem of the Soviet Union. In the middle is the image of planet Earth. A sickle and a hammer cross against its background. A little lower is the sun, from which long rays emanate towards the planet. From the North Pole, where the ears of wheat meet, a star is located. Sheaves of wheat are the frame of the central image. They are bundled using tape. Only fifteen tape bindings. Each turn of the tape symbolizes a union republic.
