The ability to crochet more than compensates for the benefits of other techniques. With a minimum stock of skills, you can even crochet your socks. The pattern of the main pattern can be solid or openwork, and the choice of yarn is determined only by the personal preferences of the craftswoman.
Types of Crochet Socks
Given the enormous popularity of alternative ways of making socks, one should not be surprised at their diversity. Not wanting to waste time wielding five uncomfortable knitting needles, many knitters developed their own methods for crocheting socks. Schemes in most cases are absent, since a more eloquent instruction is a verbal description.
Combining the existing options for making socks, we can distinguish several main types:
- Simplified.
- With a heel.
- From individual motives.
The list does not include numerous methods for making slippers, since they are often built on tying a hard sole (and this is a completely different type of product). An exception is if you crochet socks-slippers (you can choose any patterns for their fabric). They are designed on the basis of a simplified look of socks and do not include the sole.
The simplest crochet socks: schemes, description, photo
Unlike similar products, knitted with needles, such socks start with a little cape.
- Four air loops (VP) are enclosed in a ring and knitted in circular rows, expanding each row by five loops.
This method of expansion allows you to get the optimal shape of the toe cap. It should be semicircular, but not too wide (as with an extension of six loops). Additions should be made in a checkerboard pattern, making sure that in each row they are at different levels. Otherwise, you get a pentagon with sharp edges.
When the width of the fabric is equal to the volume of the foot, the application should be stopped and then knit evenly.
2. Thus, it is necessary to increase the canvas until, in height, it becomes equal to the length of the foot from the fingertips to lift.
Further knitting is continued in part. The upper part of the sock is left and works only with the bottom. In the return rows form a rectangle equal in height to the length of the foot from the rise to the edge of the heel. The part is ready, the thread is torn off and a side seam is made. In the manufacture of slippers, the work will be finished after knitting several rows of strapping. But the photos below depict just such an option.

Many hardware stores sell a wide variety of sewn and adhesive parts to complement the composition. These are eyes, beads, sequins and much more.
Heel socks
The following method of making socks with a hook is based on imitating the appearance of knitted items. Due to the specific technology, the heel of such models better matches the anatomical structure of the human foot. If you crochet such socks (patterns of openwork patterns here will be very appropriate), they can serve as a wonderful gift for a loved one.
The beginning of knitting can be the same as in the previous model (VP ring) or consist in circular knitting around the VP chain. In the latter case, the expansion of the fabric is performed along the edges of the chain (two loops on each side). The expansion is stopped when the canvas becomes equal in width to the circumference of the foot. Next, they knit evenly.
Heel part formation
Having tied to the beginning of the heel, they continue to build up only the lower part of the toe. A square web should be formed and the formation of a bulky heel should begin.
Conditionally dividing the loop of the square into three, you need to knit in return rows only the second third. At the beginning and at the end of each short row, one of the untied loops of the square should be picked up. That is, when working on the second third, you should gradually connect its edges with the loops of the first and third third.
The finished part of the heel turns out to be very similar to a similar element of the toe, knitted with needles.

Motif Socks
When using separately connected and then stitched fragments, you can also get crocheted socks ( it is advisable to choose not very openwork patterns of motifs ). However, other forms or combinations of several different motifs are used.
To connect the fragments, traditional methods are used: fastening at several points during the knitting of the last row, as well as stitching with a needle or crochet.
The greatest number of difficulties is associated with the application of the first method, because in order to correct the error you have to bandage the entire last row.
Needle stitching allows you to achieve high strength socks. At the same time, the use of a hook for connecting fragments provides an opportunity for the use of three-dimensional decorative seams.
