The largest reservoir of the Lipetsk region is located on the Matyr River . It is located in the Gryazinsky district, is called the Matyr reservoir. It covers an area of about 45 square meters. km Its length is 40 km, the maximum depth is 13 m, and its width is 1.5 km. It was formed during the period of the USSR.
During the construction of the metallurgical plant, there was a shortage of water from local rivers, due to the prohibitive capacity in production, the construction of a reservoir solved urgent problems.
